help or teach me to drive
Does this car need to see redline? If so, how often? Or just run it through the powerband ) ~4-6k? Drive it like you stole? Conservative? WHAT, need help.
City and congested traffic and slow neighboorhood streeets.
I can lugh it pretty good under 2k, but after 2500 is shift light and I cannot look away. But at times when keeping it real tame and use the absolutley least amount of pedal as required.
But then I hear you guys talk about running it hard. But how often?, drive it hard every day I can't do, but every or every other weekend I can muster 50-100 miles mostly because traffic and road conditions and sight distance, but short jaunts/like 40-80/100
I think it was Icemark that said a car died from grannying. Like ride the road perfectly smooth for wind conditions or ramble on threw.
This is not a track car, but a daily driver. Bump absorbtion is primal to a vehicle.
Do I need to run the car up in the temperature gauge, because it came up the other day on a 10 minute run (after warm!)

You don't want to granny the car, and you really do not want to lug the engine under 2000 RPM (one of the worst things you can do).
so are you really saying that when you drive, there is no place that you can drive where you can not run it up to 6000-7000 RPM at least once pr twice in the drive?

u can easily get to 6K rpm, hell if the speed limites 25 mph, drive it in first gear till you reach the speed limit, and voila! your at 6K lol
you dont even have to floor it to rev that high, but im sure u can find places where u could rev some of hte lower gears fairly high.

I drive mine everyday...and usually redline it about twice a week. I usually drive to the shift light (3K)
uh ohhhh...
lucky i have a new engine in it...lol
so should I start redlining it more often?

I know for a fact that grannying a NA will kill the motor after 40K miles. My dad bought my '88 brand new. 45k miles he put a new motor in it. I got the car with about 93k on it. It lasted to 110 barely. Compression goes way down. My dad drove it like a grandma. I redline mine everytime I drive it and as much as possible with normal driving. Don't think you can save an abused motor by just redlining it or doing the ATF trick.... It doesn't work. Been there & done that.

You should be redlining it every chance you get. I usually redline everytime after I start moving from a stop, as long as the oil pressure and level are good there should be no problems.
If you're doing just city driving you should just buy another commuter car.

no letting your car idle and roll is not bad for it...but lugging it down (i.e. driving your car under 2 grand in a gear) is bad for it. I think that was what he was trying to get across...

I got pulled over after doing a redline pull in third gear. After I paid my fine at the courthouse the sheriff stopped me I asked what had happened. I told him I had an rx-7 and he said "Oh, you were just blowing out the carbon!!"

If you were speeding then pay the ticket. Cops remember who tries to mess with them. Idleing through the parking lot is fine I would think that occasionally lugging the engine would be ok, but constantly doing it would be harmful. I have a PITA 25 mph zone on my way to & from the beach - it's a speed trap. I'll occasionally lug through it at 1500 rpm's if it's night time hours. maybe 1/2 mile long, but I make sure to redline it afterwards.
