Help with storage bins

So I have two RX7's. One-- my main model-- is a 1986 sport model with just 116k miles and is in very good condition. The other is a 1988 SE with a blown engine that I only bought for parts. Well, I'm about to sell the '88, but before I do I want to know if it's possible to put the storage bins of the '88 into the '86 which has nothing. Would any modifications need to be done or are they interchangeable?

Fully interchangeable, between nothing, bins, and the rear seats. Though you may have to drill a hole for the seats, not sure though, i know you can go from seats to bins or nothing w/o any problems, as well as nothing to bins. Plus 88 and 86 are both S4 so i wouldn't matter if there was a change in them from s4 to s5

Well, I haven't lifted the carpet or anything. I figured before I went to the trouble I'd ask the experts. So, as of now there's just blank carpet all the way back.

Good to know. Anything I should know about the job? Is it a pretty quick switch or are there any hidden bolts I'm going to have to get to?

The present carpet will have to have holes cutout for the storage bins. Once the carpet is up you'll find a piece of wood covering the hole. You shouldn't have any problems. Remove the wood planking and cut the carpet carefully OR switch the carpets b/t cars.

Thanks, Hailers. I think I'll just switch out the carpet since the interior and exterior are the same color. I can't believe what a steal I got in that 88, btw. I had a huge dent in my front left fender and the only shell (that wasn't supremely overpriced) I could find happened to be the exact same color-- which meant no repainting.

jono, if you want to overspend you can have mine I'm sure.
