Help with safe setup

So as you may or may not know, I popped an engine recently. I was looking for some input on my new setup. Maybe some of you guys who are farther along than I am, and have already run a similar setup, can help me with some levels/ settings. This will be the return setup:

-streetport w/ Hurley racing seals
-TID mod
-solid 3" exhaust
-720cc sec's (enough??)
-S-AFC
-NPR FMIC
-pre-mix
-no emmissions/ PS/ AC
-16" Efan
-ported wastegate/ no twin scroll
-HKS SS BOV
-boost/ AF gauges
-Walbro 255
-ACCEL 8.8 wires

Any suggestions on safe boost settings given fuel system (poor fuel management is what I belive popped the last engine). I was a little reckless with the last engine (running 12+psi) and would like to be a lot more conservative this time. Also, running premix, will I still need the oil cooler? Thanks

I have a s4 with ported wastegate and twin scroll removed, but why not just go ahead and get the s5 turbo and port the dual wastegate passages. Can't be to safe when it comes to limiting boost ya know

I still consider myself a rotor newbie but it looks pretty good to me. What are you going to control the boost with? With full intake and exhuast on a ported s4 turbo I would think the boost would be around 10 pounds anyway, but then there should be a little drop from the fmic.

I'd say the safest way would to go with your list, but get dyno tuned. Maybe spend a little extra money and get your own wideband O2 sensor.

I second that notion to not use them..... i also second that a DIY wideband kit is your best bet or a dyno which uses a wideband to tune your car... either way you have to get it tuned properly...a boost controller like a blitz or apexi would do some good too... im not really a fan of mbc's

For some reason the lastest seals that they have been making have all been breaking on turbo engines. KD Rotary says that out of 21 cars that have had the seals installed 19 of them have come back so far. One for my friends has gone through 2 set so far in the last 6 months. One might say it was from the tuning but I know for a fact that his tuning was to par. He was running extreamly consertative tuning. I am running stock seals without any prolbems at all.

Hmmm, I did just pop an engine with Hurley's in it. The engine only had 3k on it too...

I am reluctant to run stock seals on a high HP application. One of the things I like about the Hurley's is the lowered risk of scarring the housing if it does pop. Are there any other seals that break down like that?

How much power are you running? I'll probally be pushing somewhere around 450rwhp by next summer. At the moment its probally somewhere around 400rwhp. I wouldn't be too concerned with running stock seals. The hurleys seal are nice in that the dont screw up your engine when they break but whats the point if there so weak. Im not sure that there are any other seals out there like the hurleys.

I dont really have a target HP... I would like to be around 350 RWHP.

Id like to see 12's at the strip and still have fun in the twisties on the way home. We'll see though.

Premix Lubricates the Apex Seals. The oil Cooler cools the oil after being heated in the rotor. DO NOT RUN ANY ROTARY WITHOUT AN OIL COOLER!

Hey man, Stock Apex Seals are some of the most solid you can get. I think with only 350RWHP the stock seals will be plenty, thats really not that much HP. I personally am going to run Atkins two peice on my N/A motor coming up. Ill second "banzaitoyotoa's" notion of YOU BETTER HAVE THAT GOD DAMN OIL COOLER ON THERE CRACKER! That **** will drop your temps dramatically.

Why not try water injection? If fuel management killed the last one, water injection may help if your fuel management goes too lean. From what I have read online from a few sources, water injection was invented and used in WWII fighter planes to keep them from detonating under boost at insane power levels. WI can allow you to run leaner fuel or more advanced timing for a given fuel octane before detonation or preignition occurs. What octane were you running and what brand, when the engine blew?

I am about to rebuild my NA due to a carbon locked seal and may try WI so I can advance my timing a little . . .
