The apex seal end piece - You normally get new replacement seals for a rebuild.
If you're referring to the new seal end, just replace the one part.

The gray goo - maybe cooked or solvent soaked RTV sealant?

what drew you to this conclusion?

as for the poster, if it was the original seal piece then they should be replaced anyways. you should always replace apex seals when the engine is torn down unless they are extremely low mileage and they are placed in their original positions.

the rotor housings look great still.

the iron is hard to tell by that pic, it could be some block sealant or just a blocked coolant passage due to buildup which is fairly common but wipe it down and be sure that the iron seal wall is still intact, the grey crap could be coolant mixed with exhaust which could have produced it, iron seal wall failures are relatively common and the irons are unusable if this is the case.

what was the original reason for teardown/rebuild?

The #2 pic housing looks like it has very large pits puting it way past the spec range.

Other then the pits the housing looks mint.

LOL those are not pits, it's dirt. LOL the reason for the tear down was that it was a pick and pillage motor and I was not sure how it looked inside. It's going to go into my rx2

Also I would like to know what is the best way to clean the parts? I was thinking about calling a machine shop and having them put them into one of their big dishwashers.

hot water parts washers are what i use, works just fine. just be sure to thoroughly inspect everything after they are all cleaned since you do not know the history of the motor.
