Exclamation HELP with PURCHASING TII!!??

I was testing an 1987 TII. 71k miles, everything working seemed working fine. From what I could see, the engine was good, no funky smoke, started really quick, no weird idle. The temp. gauge was normal (a little below halfway mark). I had the hatch open, so I went outside to close it, and I kinda closed it hard. As i got inside the car, a beep and the "ADD COOLANT" light turns on for 2 seconds but then turns off. At this point i'm having second thoughts on purchasing this vehicle. So i go outside, pop the hood and the water level seemed perfectly fine. So i get back in and test drive it for about 20 min. hammering it on the freeway and so on, but the water temp. seemed not to move.

What could this be? I suspect it might be a bad connection on the "ADD COOLANT" light, like a cold solder or something, because it turned itself on for a bit, then turned off. Surprinsingly everything under the hood seemed almost like new, the hoses, engine, caps. Maybe he rebuild it. I'll run a CarFax.

The dude is selling it for $2700, and the paint job isn't very good. It's pealing in the rear bumper, and sunroof and the driver's door. I think I'm gonna tell him I'll give him 2500 and see what he says.

PLEASE reply. I'm going back tomorrow morning to check it out in the daylight. Thanks

Could be an air bubble in the cooling system, or just a shitty connection @ the sensor. If it only came on once Id just dismiss it.

Offer him $2000 with those miles and paint condition. I wouldn't go more than $2300.00 though.

for 2500 that would be a good buy.

The light coming on might have been just an air bubble in the system if it never came back on.

Just in case though
You might want to take the upper most radiator cap off(close to the alternator) and then turn the engine over if it starts spewing out of the hole fast then it's a bad coolant seal and is over pressurizing the cooling system.

Hmmmm...
Like someone said above look for oil leaks.
Right under the oil filter(will leak onto a coolant hose and ruin it causing a instant coolant dump)

Paint is nothing. That's easy to redo.

Check the climate control(Logicon)
Make sure every setting works and then check the wiper switch.

I plan to get a TII by winter si I'm in the ame boat soon.
