Help needed for a newbie
Ok, here's the deal: I found an `88 Turbo II for sale for $200. The catch is that it won't run and I'm not sure what's wrong with it. The story from the guy selling it (knows nothing at all about rotary engines) is that last winter he forgot to put antifreeze in it and one morning it wouldn't start. He said it'll turn over but won't start and it leaks water from the top of the engine. He's convinced that the head is cracked
so he's selling it super cheap!
I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it, but I'm not really an expert on these cars and I'd like to get an idea of what I'm in for. Thanks in advance.

All i can say is that if you don't want it, i do. Im trying to do a t2 swap into my 85 gsl, and i need a good parts car *aside from engine*.
But as for the problem, i would say that it might have a coolant seal blown. It could be flooded badly, need some good old atf treatment. If it leaks water from the top of the engine, and he forgot to put anti freeze in it, the water could of frozed, expanded, and cracked the engine/waterline/ratiator.
My guess is that your engine is probably shot though. On the bright side you can get a new engine setup for about $1500. Well not new, but rebuilt. But this is all assuming that there are no major problems. And i hate to say it, but these cars have a bad habit of developing problems... just ask jacobcartmill. He bought a 87 t2, and every other week its sitting in my drive way getting worked on.
*shrug* I would say go for it, 200 isn't bad for anything. But i would also get a few opinions from the guys on here that know more about t2's than i do. But seriously, if you don't want it, i got dibs!!!! Without a parts car, fitting a 13b into a 12a chassis is like putting a square block through a triangle hole...

Still, $200 is a killer deal, especially for a complete TII.

Hey Blitz,
If I decide to pass on it, it's all yours. I'm going to call him in a couple of days because he's lost the title and doesn't know if he wants to bother with applying for a new one. I don't want it without the title, but I guess that wouldn't be a problem for you if you just want it for parts.

Thanks, i appreciate it. My parts list wouldn't be so much of a pain if the junkyards around here knew a damn thing about imports. I got lucky with my car, and found a guy that just wanted to crush and get rid of just about everything he had in his yard. But everywhere else, anything, and i mean anything you pull of an rx7 is atleast 50 bucks...
tail light (just the plastic lense) to replace one that my friend ran his truck into $50, t2 oil cooler $50, t2 mass airflow sensor $50, boost sensor $50....
The only thing is that i hate getting a car just to rip it apart, these cars are so unique, and fun... i hate seeing them in a junkyard with the windows broken, and rusted out... *sniff sniff*..
