Help me out with my turbo II

i'm new to 2nd gen RX-7's and have a few questions. i've got an 87 turbo II. First, does the racing beat 3" inch downpipe fit to the stock turbo? what are the pros and cons of a straight exhaust system? if i run a straight exhaust what do i need to do to my fuel system? what are the recommended/required gauges you need when you start tuning a 7? anyone know where to get a good set of black five spoke rims for a 7(like user "wan")? whats a good strut tower brace? thanx for any help.

What up.
The 3" down pipe will fit on a stock turbo. Free up the exhaust and you will notice a significant boost in power. The stock fuel cut will be a problem, but just get a FCD. You should also get a bigger fuel pump to support the extra needed fuel. 680cc secondary injectors from the gsle arent a bad idea too. The basic gauges are the boost, a/f, egt.
If I were you I would look into swapping the turbo for the 89+ unit.

How about 3rd gen wheels? Theyre inexpensive and look nice on the FC.

Thanx twincam. Other than FCD and a bigger fuel pump, i dont need to upgrade anything else with a straight exhaust system? Where can i get a set of the FD rims? and you have any pictures of FC's with the rims on it? and by chance could you give a list of your mods?

Yep, its a big dif to free up the intake & exhaust with a intake! You can also remove the air pump (But get the dual alt. pully) It should put you around 230-245 HP! I never thought of the 3rd Gen rims, is it a perfect match? Good luck with your T2, they are great cars! but make sure you have changed the coolant, they do run hotter! (Of course keep the oil changed too)

Where can I get the dual alternator pulley? Is that to keep the alternator belt from slipping?

(I don't have my car right now, so I can't see which belt is doing what -but I'm removing my airpump and have block-off plates ordered.)

www.racingbeat.com sells the dual belt ALT pulley.

3rd gen wheels will fit, you just need the correct spacers.

Yes, but keep in mind this doesn't fit the other stock exhaust system pieces or ANY aftermarket exhaust systems.&nbsp You're on your own to make everything else behind that or end up building all kinds of adapters.

what are the pros and cons of a straight exhaust system?
It's going to have a lot of nasty high-end resonances.&nbsp It is highly recommended to get the 3" Racing Beat presilencer (perfect fit) if you're thinking about going with the RB 3" downpipe.

if i run a straight exhaust what do i need to do to my fuel system?
With stock ECU, FCD + fuel pump.&nbsp You might want to think about porting the stock wastegate, as boost creep will be a problem.

what are the recommended/required gauges you need when you start tuning a 7?
I recommend boost and AFR gauges.&nbsp An EGT gauges will cost a bit more and not very easy to install.

anyone know where to get a good set of black five spoke rims for a 7(like user "wan")?
Sorry, I dunno what kinda rims wan is running.

whats a good strut tower brace? thanx for any help.
Cusco - any GReddy dealer can get them.

Set up as follows for reliablity;
RB full exhaust system
Upgrade computer chip or Fcon (will delete cut off)
fuel pressure regulator
upgrade secondary injectors
Your choice of intake filters (easiest way is to keep the stock airbox, drill 2-3in holes on the cover, then smooth out the interior of the bottom of the box)
front mount intercooler
dual pullies
boost regulator (again your choice)
And yes, remove that airpump!
One last thing. Do the wastegate port. It will delete boost creep.

I think that was it. With this set up...properly tuned, you WILL run low 13's... HP's to the rear will be in the range of 225+. I have posted my dyno results somewhere on the forum.

Have fun and dont be afraid to race an FD!

Stock is enough power to beat alot of cars. When you said ", but some people say straight exhaust is fine and some say go RB dowpipe and presilencer and thats enough? what should i do?"..well my question to you is, How much power do you want???..what most people listed are pretty good set-up to get you to atleast 230HP.If i were you i'd get the RB full exaust.
Basic things you need (again)..
Bigger fuel pump (walbro 255lph)
GSL-SE injectors or 700+cc
fuel computer S-AFC or the other brand
RB exaust system
K&N intake or similar
89+ turbo/manifold or port 87/88 wastegate
FCD
boost controller

This should be a good set-up to get you to make 240 or higher!..
This will cost you alot of money but will probably save your motor..
GOOD LUCK

get yourself an EGT. www.frostalarm.com you can get one of those dual-indicatior ones, one for the front and one for the rear rotor. Might cost you around $150 for the whole setup.

I have to disagree. My car runs the RB 80mm downpipe, a custom 3'' midpipe, and an HKS 60mm catback. There is no resonance at all, anywhere in the RPM range. Sounds very mellow, almost exactly like the RB full exhaust on my first gen.

It'll be kinda hard to get an EGT for each rotor since there is only one downpipe

Of all the mods i've done. I think the biggest one was the 17 lbs lightweight flywheel from RB. It gave more than my N1 did. For the money it isn't bad. I still have the stock motor turbo and I/C. everything else has been modded. the sig #'s weren't with the 17 lbs flywheel.
