HELP ME!!! Oh please! turbo 2 prob.

Ok I have a '89 Turbo II with 80k mi., this is one crazy problem! This usally happens when it's hot out but sometimes when it's cool(depends if i'm running it hard).

Well the car runs fine, idols great, but when I get on it and take it above 5 and a half rpm I start getting a really wierd and awful scraping/banging/squeaking noise. Then I loose tons of power and the car starts to mis fire, only under a load, if when it's making this noise I push in the clutch and rev it (almost to red line) it's totally fine, no noise, but under a load at hight rpm it sounds awful like it's gunna blow up. Yet still idols fine, and drives fine at low rpm's.

But if I let it sit a while and take the car out again, it's fine at the high rpm's but starts doing it again as the engine gets hotter.

Anyone have any idea what this might be????

Help me! I need to get back to killing some honda's again!

It sounds like detonation to me. Either you're running lean or your timing is too advanced.

EDIT: I just noticed you're in Iowa. If you're near Des Moines, I can help you with your car.

I just checked your other thread...did you ever get your O2 sensor/TPS problem fixed?

You haven’t mentioned any mods, which makes diagnosing your problem harder. Taking a stab in the dark, assuming you have some intake and/or exhaust mods and have not fitted a fuel cut defender, it sounds like you’re hitting fuel cut at 8.6psi boost.

If you're free tonight, give me a call...515-988-2148. I'll be in West Des Moines messing with my TII a little, and we'd probably be able to take a look at yours as well. If a weekend would be better for you, let me know. -Ed
