Help me identify these two 13B blocks! (Pics)

Ok, so I picked up these two engines for real cheap (to practice porting) and the guy told me they were both S4 NA blocks. One is supposedly blown and the other is locked up.

Anyways, if you're wondering...No, I can't take it apart to check the ports. At least not now. Stupid flywheel nut!

So I need identifying. I'm pretty sure the one with the blue front cover is an S4 NA engine (OMP was a give away too.) The other one with the white painting has a different intermediate housing (no EGR valve opening on top of the housing?.) Also, on the rotor housings on the white one, on top, it says something like Mazda Corportation, Hiroshima, Japan, NSU Wankel. While the other engine doesn't have those writings. I'm thinking its a 13BT...hopefully..but S4 or S5? Never seen an S5 engine before.

If it matters, the oil filler tube is shorter on the white engine.

if youre for sure the blue is an NA, it'll have exhaust diffusers in them, on the other hand from what i can see the white one is a s4 13bt block, turbos came with not exhaust diffusers

Exhaust diffusers? Hmm...I'll have to check for that when I come back home.

If they're both NA's, why is the intermediate and rotor housing different on the white one?

Thanks for the help.

why dont u take pics from all sides of the motor, i think we all would be able to figure it out alot faster.

the intermediate is different because of they are different year engines(s4,s5).

Hmm...don't know why it uploaded the same pic twice. I'll upload the other side pic later.

Thanks for the info. At least I know one of them is an S5 now. Woohoo!

Ok, just confirmed with a few rotary guys on AIM. Blue one is S4 NA for sure and white one is S5 NA. Thanks everyone.

The white one looks like my eurospec. one.
It doesnt have the EGR port in the int. iron either, its definately a N/A as it has 6 ports.

Take a closer pic of the exhaust ports, Do they have a egr port on EACH housing?
If they do it might be a european motor
MMMMMMMMM vaccum operated, solenoid controlled Butterflies instead of stuck emission controlled rotating sleeves

Is that an aftermarket flywheel on the white engine?

The right one looks like a GSLSE engine. You can see the rotorhousings are flat on top, versus dished like 86+. Also i dont see any exhaust diffusers in that one, which is a trademark of 85 and prior engines. IF you can put your finger in there, I bet the exhaust port is smaller than on the other one (though it'll be hard to tell for the other one's exhaust diffuser). IF you can rotate this engine, check the apex seals, bet they're 3mm wide. This would tell you it is a pre-86 engine. Also, the short oiltube on the white one indicates a GSLSE engine.

The left one mustbe an s4 NA, but it looks like it could have been rebuilt before, or is a late 88 engine. S4 rotorhousings usually have a square plate on top in the middle, versus the s5 rotorhousings which do not (like what are on that engine). I have, however, seen s4 NA rotorhousings that had an odd casting, and didnt have the plate on top, I theorize these are late 88 housings. There is not a real difference between them, though, other than a threaded hole above teh T plughole on s5 rotorhousings.

Hmm...interesting observation. I guess I'll open up the GSL SE engine once I get the proper tools and have a look see.
