MI Help, idle and starting issues, ect.

Car: 1991 Rx7 Fc series 5 Non turbo
Hello guys, i am new here and have little to no experience with a B13 engine, i have always been a BMW guy.
So my issue i am having with my car is that when i turn the key over to crank in order to get my car running i have to pump the gas peddle while turning it over, if i don't the car will just crank but wont start, does anyone have a idea on what might cause the problem? i have already replaced the starter, fuel filter, and spark plugs, i even fully charged my battery in last ditch effort to see if that world help. Another issue, when the car does start it has a problem staying running, i have to give it gas and hold it around 2500 RPM until it reaches the middle of the gauge for the temperature, after it reaches the middle of the temperature gauge it will idle by its self anywhere in the 1200-1500 RPM range and it will fluctuate 24/7 in the range. i always hear that rotatory engines idle higher by default but that seems a little high. if anyone has any help or info for me to help me look for issues or stuff that would be great

I am having the same issue, new fuel filter, with fuel pressure gauge install and shows 28psi. I heard maybe fuel pump doesn’t receive 12v from the resistor? I am looking to draw power to the fuel pump and make sure it has 12v.

Trevor, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here. To get you started, there are pdfs of the factory service manual for rx7's available at foxed.ca as well as rotaryheads.com. These manuals tell you how to troubleshoot and fix most of your issues. Please download these so you can use them while you are working on your car.

From what you have described, you are having a problem with the fuel and intake system on your car. The method for troubleshooting this can be found in the fuel and emissions section in the factory manual. With rotary engines, one of the easy to check and fix problems is a vacuum leak. If the engine isn't reading the correct amount of airflow and pressure going through the engine, the computer will try to compensate. With large leaks, the engine may not run at all. Old rubber vacuum lines can crack or fall off, leaving openings in the intake system. This is usually the first thing that rotary guys check for when troubleshooting. It's one of the less invasive checks to do. Make sure all your vacuum hoses are connected and intact before checking other items.

Smokimon, same as Trevor, please look at the factory manual. 28psi is a low fuel pressure. There are a couple possibilities for this. The first is that the fuel pressure regulator may be hooked up incorrectly. The second would likely be fuel pump related. The fuel pump is easy to access at the back of the car. You can ground the jumper at the front of the car per the manual to run the fuel pump and check to see if you have the right voltages at the pump. You can also check pressure at the pump to see if it is putting out what it is supposed to. This method is detailed in the manual.

I thought the idle fuel pressure should be around 28psi?
