Help identifying this part

I have a fuel leak under the hood of my '88 SE, and me and my friend tracked it down to this:

It's the yellowed plastic thing. What is it? Thanks in advance.

Pulsation damper. These are known to leak and are a major cause of engine fires. Replace it ASAP or you may lose the whole car. They are pricey, but worth it. Mazdatrix store

It's called a pulsation damper and replacing it or doing the banjo bolt alternative should be your top priority.

Just to double check, the PN is N304-13-230 for the damper and N304-13-291 for the gasket, correct?

I've been thinking about going this route. Is the S5 rail a straight bolt in?

Yes, what else needs to be changed or replaced? Would it still be worthwhile if I was considering a Turbo build using my engine (66,000 miles), or should I just replace the damper and save my money for something I will replace later?

Post in the 4sale section for a dampner. or just get a aftermarket fuel pressure regulater with a built in dampner. Your only a few min. away from me i might have one at home i would have to look.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it! If not I will likely just go for the Series 5 rail so I don't have to worry about it.

This is a myth. The S5 PD is just about as likely to leak as the S4 version. The only difference is the screw was removed, so it couldn't work its way loose. The diaphragm can still fail. The major downside is when it fails, you can't just thread a new one in the end of the rail. This thread has one example of a failed S5 PD: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/welding-sealing-s5-pulsation-dampner-830285/.
