It is the S4 13B non-turbo engine.

Oh, you're right, I didn't see the distributer. I thought the ACV looked kind of odd. Here is some info on the 1st Gen Rx7

I have no clue why you'd have a 12A in your car. Does the car feel way underpowered? What does it saym on the throttle body(dynamic chamber) 12A or 13B? I see that your engine is fuel injected, I think that the 12A was carbed(I might be wrong). This is what a S4 NA engine looks like.........

All 12a's are carbed. All 13B's after 84 were fuel injected. It could be a case of someone replacing the CAS with a distrib....ala old mid 70's 13Bs.

..could it be a 13b out of an 84-85 1st gen? I'm not sure what the intake looks like on them..

and someting about the exhaust looks odd to me...

No, I doubt it's a 84-85 13B (i've never see them) since it has a secondary fuel rail.

It's probably just a standard S4 13B with a distributer instead of the CAS.

I think you've got a 13B out of a first gen GSL SE. For '84-'85 mazda sold 12A's (carburated) and the GSL SE which had the early 13B's (injected) which had some minor changes before it ended up in the 2nd gens.

Check the top of the rotor housings...
They will say "Mazda 13B" or "Mazda12A"
If it says Mazda 13B, Then it's a 13B core..
if it says Mazda 12A, Then....
yea PM if you need me to finish

What that hell are you guy stalking about? Why open your mouth if you dont know the answer, only to confuse the original poster and spread misinformation??

That engine is the s4 13b, EFI, 146hp 6 port nonturbo engine. IT is what is *supposed* to be in any 86, 87, or 88 nonturbo car.Enough people on here have s4 nonturbos that I thought surely someone would have said "hey, that matches my engine". 12a, c'mon guys, 12a's are carbed, where do you see a carb?

I dont mean to bust anyone's ***** here, but I couldnt believe my eyes when i read this. A guy asks what engine he has, and he posts this in teh 2nd gen forum...this leads one to believe he has a 2nd gen. There are 4 engines that came in 2gens, and you guys dont respond with any of them. And this is supposed to be the largest (and most knowledgeable) rotary forum in teh world?

ILLMAN is from ESTONIA. Now although its a 13B and fuel injected, I'd use some care making declaritive sentences as to exactly what he has (13B without a doubt) because the Euro version from what I've read on this forum is/was different is some ways. Good to hear from someone from eastern Europe though. EDIT: I do have a question for Illman. Do you know the country of origin of the car?????

hypntyz7: dude, i think everyone is confused since they see a distributor caps. I actually noticed that there are no auxiliary ports. Is it possible that this is a 13b 4-port?
