Angry Help Help Help, can't get tranny out

The top center transmission to engine mounting bolt seems to be in from the wrong side. It had a nut on the tranny side, wich I finally got off, but now the tranny is hung up on the bolt, which is threaded from the engine side. I can't seem to move the tranny around enough to get the weight off that one GD bolt. Don't have a dremmell, so I can't get a small enough cutting disc in there to cut it off and replace it. Any ideas, short of removing the intake manifold to get to the other side of the bolt?

Uhm, that bolt is *supposed* to be in there like that...after the nut is removed it no longer impedes the tranny from coming off. There are 2 dowels holding it on, rock it around back and forth up and down and it will break loose and fall off. BE sure you have all the bellhousing bolts off...there are 2 for the starter, and 4 for the tranny(plus the nut you spoke of earlier). BE sure you have removed the bolt that sits underneath where the starter was, it is easy to miss. after that, rock it around and it will come off. Be sure you have the shifter assembly disconnected inside the car also...there is no reason it shouldt fall off once pulled about 6" away from the engine.

If all the weight being on the one bolt is causing it to stick, then put a few of the other ones back in to hold up the weight, and then pull the stuck one out.

If you look closely, that "bolt" is really a stud that screws into the rear iron. It has a slot in it for a screwdriver. Screw it in as far as you can... then the tranny will come right off.

Did you get the nut about half way up on the drivers side?

I actually always leave the stud in place just as it is:

1) it is usually really tight and not worth fooling with
2) it will support the weight of the tranny while youre trying to align the input shaft and bellhousing during reinstallation preventing clutch damage
3) it helps line up the bellhousing anyway
4) it does not impede removal or installation of teh tranny once the nut is taken off.

Well, I appreciate all the help. I've gotten ALL of the bolts out, except the one that I'm hung up on. The release cylinder is off, and so is the shifter. Still no luck. So you guys seem to be saying that I should leave the stud as is, get back under the car, and wiggle the hell out of the transmission. I quess I'll give that another try after work tomorrow.

Thanks guys. This was supposed to be an easy job. With all the rusted and fused bolts on the exhaust, and now hanging up on this stud, today was day number five (though yesterday and today were short).
