help...Got a car and dont know whats wrong

Ok, this is how it looks: I saw an 86 rx7 NA in my parking garage. It was all dirty and dusty. So i found out who owns it, and the owner wanted to sell it. She said it had been sitting for 2 years so i didnt konw what to think. When she gave me the keys i went downstairs, and it wouldnt even turn. So i got my moms car and jumped it, it started up! But it wouldnt idle so it kept dying. When i took off the jumpers it wouldnt start, and nothing would turn on. I put the jumpers back on, and still the same thing...nothing. So i figured its the alternator. She said the ECU needed to be replaced. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

it is rare that an ECU needs to be replaced on an RX-7. not saying that it cant be the problem though, but i doubt it

how does it run when you do get it to start? like ****?

put another battery in the thing and see what happens, the alternator is not related to getting the car started

why did she let it sit for so long? the motor might be on its way out

those cars need to be run every once in a while, its not good at all for them to sit.

my guess, it needs a new motor. do a compression check

Ok ummm...Where to start,
You probably want to look at everything in the car and I mean everything. You should check out all the grounding's all of the spark-plugs(known to go bad if sitting), spark wires, bat, bat wires, than go for say TPS but I would say that alternator is a good step first if you can get a rebuilt on or a new one for cheap. Check the plugs though and see if that is it. I really don't know if the 86's were EFI or Carb so if it is a carb I am clueless about that ****, if it is EFI I can help out even more but this is a start

I had a lot of idling problems when I got my 87.. The majority of them were *HUGEASS INTAKE LEAKS*. The black plastic bend only had one bolt onto the TB... like a 5mm gap! The BAC hose wasn't plugged into the snorkel... so there's another hole... oy..

It may very well be an intake leak..

her $200 and rebuild the engine. I'm serious !!!!

The rotary engines HATE to sit and not be used. The apex seals are prolly stuck and the car must have some other problems.

Its funny how everyone jumps in and says the engine is blown... COME ON IT HAS TWO YEAR OLD GAS IN IT!!!!!

gas goes bad after 3 months.

How cheap are you getting it for?
put a new battery in it, oil change and drain out all the old gas with the plug on the gas tank and refuel it with fresh gas and some injector cleaner.

As for there being nothing after jumping it, check all the main fuses on the driver side shock tower.

Be gentle with it for the first while after it starts. You are going to want to gradually introduce it to RPM. Let everything loosen up a bit before jumping on it. Good luck!
