My 1988 RX-7 Convertible, stored for winter, had a dead battery (due to my not closing door tightly and having overhead light on for a week or so). Car has tight engine with only 27000 original miles. Put charger on it for an hour or so, when it did not start, used engine start feature of charger to get it running. Then took it out for half hour drive to charge battery. Noticed that oil pressure guage did not seem to be operating. Usually it runs about 60 at idle, and 90 or higher when revving it to 4000 RPM or more. Guage seemed to operate indicating low pressure (30 or so) at times, then would drop to 0. Checked oil level, sump is full. Oil level warning light not lit when running. Car seems to run fine. Did I knock a wire loose? I looked and did not find one, which connector has wires for pressure guage?

Or, do I have a much more serious problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would double check that you didn't knock the sensor wire off of the sender (under the oil filter), but if it is showing low all the time, I would be more looking at the E-shaft oil thermo valve has failed.

 

do a search for oil pressure sender and you should be able to find about 100 threads with where the location is but I will be nice and tell you right under the oil pedestal there is a round cylinder looking thing with one wire attached to it, that is the sender. Since it is just a clip on wire it does come off fairly often. Also if your oil pressure has been 60-90 that is really high for a stock engine. You should have 30-60psi.
