Help!!! Clutch!!!!?

ok so i was driving about 7K RPM in 3rd on the interstate.. i go to shift in 4th and all of a sudden my clutch gets hard as a rock and i pretty much have to force it down and then force it in to gear and it goes in with a loud gring... so i pull over turn off the car wait about a minut or 2

then i start the car and put it in 1st (clutch still hard) and i hear a whining noise comming from arund the rear of my motor/front of tranny... and have to drive home wth hard clutch and grinding gears.

help?

It could be the Master or Slave Cylinder and if they are old it wouldn't hurt to replace them. Have someone sit inside and push the clutch and watch the clutch fork/slave cylinder too see if it moves. Almost sounds to me like the slave cylinder seized for some reason but that is just a guess.

I could be mistaken, but I think it's cheap and easy to have a transmission shop check to see if the Master Cylinder is working properly.... might want to do that before you shell out the money for a new one.

And where the heck did you come from all of a sudden? lol. I leave the 2nd gen section for a few weeks, and all of a sudden, you show up with a wicked biff hood that hopefully you'll trade to me, and a few tech issues... yet somehow, I'd never seen you around here before. hahaha

Yea could be the master or slave not letting the clutch engage all the way that would make the Pressure Plate not fully clamp the disk to the flywheel.

also MmSadda if you talking about me and my hood PM me. Everything has a price.

they would explain the chattering but are something to check for after the cheaper and easier things are replaced or tested. If they aren't the case then pull the tranny and check all the things in there clutch wise that could cause the problem.

Oh, of course there's nothing wrong with needing help! But every single freakin' thread starting with "omiGAWD HALP!!!11" is getting a bit old. Ask for help. Don't beg.

Simply starting the thread by first explaining the problem, giving your car's technical specs, model specs, etc...and then coming up with the thread title.. like "Firm Clutch Pedal" would work far better. And it helps when someone ELSE wants to search (Which should be done before posting, *always*).

I can only imagine what shifting at 7 grand and hearing gring . I would guess like everyone else some hydraulic issue or a throw out bearing issue. One thing for sure is figure it out before you grind your syncros to nothing.

Having to force it into reverse is usually from the clutch not being fully disengaged. My car did that until i adjusted the pedal and it was fine after that. Now I'm in the process of changing the clutch though because the PO didn't have it adjusted right so it slipped between shifts when i drove it home and i think it had been that way a long time because an Exedy Stage 1 Disk with only 40k miles on it was completely gone.

yeah... my previous owner was an idiot...
my tranny grinds in 2nd after 5K RPM and over
and sometimes my 5th grinds
and my reverse is a bitch to get into.

i think I'm going to see about getting a whole new clutch st up and a new tranny.
I'm sure an NA tranny is pretty cheap

do yourself a favor and get a whole new clutch setup with all new hydrolics.

well if you want to beef up your setup grab everything you need to switch to a TII tranny. Can be done for less than $500 with the rear and all. Then if you ever decide to go turbo most of the work will be done. This is my plan come summer alone with an actual TII car. This way i know my N/A drivetrain will be near bulletproof.
