If the belt is not there or if it's slipping badly, the alternator will not be generating any elctrical power. Just check it and see. May not be the problem but it only takes a minute to check.

dont tighten the belt too much, about 1/4 inch of play is good, and if the belt was there and it wasnt slipping (you would hear it, its pretty damn annoying), then thats not the problem

have you checked any fuses or wires? compression test? hear crunching sounds when it popped off? how freely does it crank? does it sound like it is just spinning or do you hear it puffing with every revolution?

just a few things to check

You should check the basics, fuel, spark, and compression. Since it sounds like you have fuel, hopefully you are just missing spark..

fan light? did you mean coolant light? if the check coolant light is on it means you have low coolant. try cranking it with full throttle. remove your spark plugs and check for spark. if you have spark check your fuel pressure. it should be about 50 psi. then if you still dont find anything wrong check your compression.
