If anything, get a hood lock also.  Since we've been coming across teams of thieves that like to break windows, pull hood latch, and cut the battery cable...in under 2 seconds, and it sounds like your alarm is just chirping.

I used to install alarms, many in cars after they were already broken into or stolen once before. I have NEVER heard of a thief needing any vehicle wire color codes to "hack" an alarm. He only needs the ALARMS wire colors, and the sad truth is that if you know the colors of one alarm then you know the colors of 80-90% of them you would probably need to disable any alarm or someones starter kill. I taped up and tucked my wires away to be neat but spending tons of time on a stealth install is a waste of time. Theives already know to cut the siren and starter interrupt wire or simply bypass the internal SK relay on some alarms. I used to explain to my customers that NO alarm makes your car impossible to steal, but it makes the thief go steal someone elses car instead of yours. If a thief REALLY wants your car he will find a way to get it, but most want an easy mark. The only thing that I think is seriously worth the trouble if you really love your car is LO-JACK, it works and helps to actually get you your car AND catch the thief redhanded sometimes.

thanks guys.
If you do a remote start (I love mine), and have a MT you MUST use multiple safety kills. Mine won't start unless the hood is closed, parking brake is on, and the stick is in neutral. If any of those are not right it won't start, or kills instantly if it is already started. Unmanned drive-offs are no fun..........don't ask how I know.

All FC trannys and ECUs have a neutral safety wire/switch. It should be mandatory for any remote start on a RX-7.

Early '87 and all '86 models (I assume) do not have this feature.
My '87 Turbo II can be started without depressing the clutch.

No no, you want to use the neutral safety on the tranny going to the ECU. It tells the ECU if the car is in gear or not. There is ground on the wire, when the tranny is not in gear.

This should not be confused with the starter lock out clutch switch which is found on the 87 and later models.

First off, thanks for all the help thus far, Icemark. But There is two things I still need to know. You said your list for the 86 would be the same for any s5. But mine does have a hood switch, I could find that my self later, but it would be nice to add to the list...

And I all ready have power locks; I have to add Actuators to the doors? These are the only two differences I could think of, and thanks again...later

Hood switch on a S5 can be found at the CPU or the check connector (three pin plug in the drivers kick panel) and is Brown/White.

And yes, as covered before, no matter what if you want remote control door lock operation you will need to add a door lock actuator to the drivers door. There is not one there.

See the factory door locking system on the FC is simply a follow me system, where the drivers door only has a switch that operates the passengers door lock motor. No door lock motor in the drivers door. So if you want remote control door locks, you will need to add a door lock motor to the drivers door.

wire colors will be the same as the 87-88, just the wires will be found at the CPU instead of the security system plug.

so if i get a aftermarket alarm, there is a factory alarm on the car. so my understanding is that can be unpluged and then just wire up the new alarm correct?

First, why would you want to unplug your factory alarm? Why wouldn't you want two systems that a thief has to defeat to take your car?

2nd no you can't unplug the factory system on a S5.
