Icemark 09-10-02 06:51 PM

ah your bummed, no factory alarm plug.

I'll post what wires and the best place to find them later tonight.

Icemark 09-10-02 08:25 PM

Alarm wires for a 86:

Ignition: large gauge Blk/wht @ switch or drivers kick panel
starter kill: large gauge blk/grn @ ignition switch or drivers kick panel.
door trigger: Blu/wht @ CPU
door handle trigger: yel @ CPU
Hood trigger: none on a '86, add hood pin.
trunk trigger: Grn @ hatch locks, and idiot lights
12V+: Large gauge Blk @ ignition switch
Key sense: Blu @ CPU (positive trigger).
parking light + tigger: Red/Blk @ CPU or light switch
Parking light - trigger: LightGreen @ CPU or LtGrn/Org @ hazard switch.
Horn: Grn/Org @ CPU (negitive trigger)
Door locks: Add door lock actuator to each door.

Remote start wires:

Ignition2:
large gauge Blk/Red @ ignition switch
accessory (needed for air conditioning): Large gauge Blue at ignition switch
tach: yel/Blu @ gauges or power steering computer or trailing coil
neutral safety: grn/blk @ ECU
brake (positive trigger): Wht/Grn @ brake switch or CPU or Cruise control computer in drivers kick panel

Is the 87 SE the same?

I have a Viper 800 in need of a new home.

Sort of. The 87 and 88 cars are pre wired for a alarm.

The following can be found at the factory alarm plug on a 87 or 88 FC instead of the locations listed in the earlier post:

Ignition: Blk/wht @ FAP
starter kill: LTGrn/Yel @ FAP or large gauge blk/grn @ ignition switch or drivers kick panel.
door trigger: Blu/wht @ FAP
Hood trigger: Brn/Wht @ FAP
trunk trigger:[/i] DkGrn @ FAP
12V+: Blue/Red @ FAP (7.5 amp draw max)
Key sense: Blu @ FAP
Hazard light flash - trigger: LightGreen @ FAP
Horn: Grn/Org @ CPU (negitive trigger)
Security/Additonal Horn: Blk/Red @ FAP (3 amp positive trigger)
Ground: Black @ FAP
Factory security light: LtGrn/Red @ FAP (500 MA positive trigger)

Those instructions are for a 88 FC, and would not apply to an 86 at all.

In addition there a slight differences in the pin locations between the 87 and 88 models, so use care if using those alarm instructions to match to the wire colors I listed rather than the pins he lists.

sorry been out for awhile..hmm ..ok so all i have to do is find these wires n cut 1/8inch of plastic on these wires n connect the alarms wires to it right? thanks again for the help icemark

Positive trigger means it will be triggered (or will trigger) by a positive, same concept with the negative.

Actually, just from the top of my head.

I have the DEI CD's and would be happy to make a copy (I did for one of the others on this board), but the installation diskette is bad, and I need to send it back into DEI to get another.

Nah, I used to work on cars for a living, and I owned a 87 sport that I bought new for almost 10 years before selling it (should have sold the now ex-wife instead at the time when she said we need for me to have car with a back seat).

And I had just put an alarm and remote start in my 88 'vert only about 6 months before this thread was started, so it refreshed my memory.

I am putting in my alarm and it's almost done but I don't have a black and white wire at my FAP for the ignition.. I have a 87 base model.. could it be a different color?

Maybe the Black and Yellow?

Also my hood trigger doesn't work.. did cars shipped without alarms have hood triggers?

THANKS!!

Icemark 05-21-03 11:54 AM

Oh this is an old thread.

The hood trigger won't be installed on base models.

At the alarm plug Ignition is Black/Yellow in 87, and key sense is blue (in case you want to use that instead)

jsotelo 05-21-03 11:56 AM

Yeah it's an old thread but it kicks ass. Without it I would not have been able to instal my alarm.

It's actualy been a lot of fun.. I've never done it before and the door actuators were cool to get working.

Thank you much for everything Icemark!

Oh one last thing.. is the car prewired for a hood sensor? I mean can I just get a pin and tap into the wires somewhere or do I need to run new wires... don't feel like taking the car apart again..

THANKS AGAIN!!

sunshine 02-05-04 04:51 PM

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and bring this one back form the dead.

Icemark - can you post a similar wire/color/location description for S5 models?

Maybe this should be archived?

RETed 02-06-04 08:47 PM

The problem with posting help on alarm installs in such detail is that you give thieves a blueprint of your alarm.  This is why I try to refrain from offering such detailed advice or to have general rules on what wires goes where.  It's easy for a seasoned thief to attack the wires going to the stock alarm, since he knows where this is already.  I usually run my wires in very hard to reach places and keep them hidden as much as possible...

If anything, get a hood lock also.  Since we've been coming across teams of thieves that like to break windows, pull hood latch, and cut the battery cable...in under 2 seconds, and it sounds like your alarm is just chirping.

Can we get a list like this for an S5 car?
Also..where is the FAP located?
Thanks,

No Factory Alarm Plug on the S5 models, and all the same wires can be found at the CPU in the drivers kick panel for S5 models.

So installing in a TII should be the same with the diagram described above?
