Please use proper spelling, punctuation and sentence structure. Keep the "IM speak" to a minimum. It is major chore to figure out someone's stream of conscienceness ramblings. You will also be taken much more seriously if you can clearly communicate your ideas.

What makes you think you can bypass the airflow meter and still have the engine run? What do you think it's there for? Where do people get these ideas?!

Assuming an ECU tuning device, I was wondering if the restrictive air flow box/sensor on an S4 could be replaced with an aftermarket product like the Granatelli MAF sensor...

Vette:

Cobra:

Seems the S4 MAF box also has the air temp sensor, so that would be another sensor to address at the same time.

Any thoughts?

Go to this thread. Look for NZCONVERTIBLE and his words. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...air+flow+meter

And or do a search using AIR FLOW METER as the search words and NZCONVERTIBLE as a name.

SEARCH device is located at the top of this page. Do an ADVANCED SEARCH. You'll hit several dozen threads. You might elect to read one or two of them.

Your engine doesn't make enough power for the stock AFM to be considered restrictive.

Hot-wire AFM's output a completely different signal than our AFM's, and so require complex electronics to allow them to be used. I've seem one or two black boxes available to do this but I've never seen anyone with an FC bother. On a mildly modded engine that gains wouldn't justify the cost.

Thanks for the replies. I took HAILER's prompt, did my research and found your extensive efforts at clarifying this aspect of the FC.

It seems it's just a typical misperception that the little rectangular gate must be restricting based on the size of the rest of the intake tube and even the throttle body itself.

I read a lot of the material posted here and am no longer concerned. I'm awaiting the release of RTEK 2.0 S4 NA which is allegedly RSN and about to install an AEM UEGO, so I'll hopefully get some clue as to what's what.

I'm the 2nd owner of my '88 vert, had it for 16 years and am just now getting my hands dirty. (Friends tell me smart people wear latex gloves these days...)

Yes. No problem at all. Just pull off the band clamp that holds the afm to the duct. Undo the bolts that hold the afm/filter assy to the chassis, pull the electrical plug straight off and set the assy on a bench.

Remove the four bolts that hold the afm to the air filter housing assy. Once removed, chunk the afm in the trash heap, then reinstall the filter assy, and clamp that were removed. Cut the electrical plug off so it won't get in the way. It's much like the ACV and all those other emissions devices. In fact emissions should improve.

Done. You'll also find as a hidden benefit, that this will also improve gas milage considerably.

Wear latex gloves for sure. I don't but others do. Some say yes to latex gloves, other differ. It's a regional thing, I suppose.

I hope I was detailed enough on the removal. Sometimes significant items skip right by me.

You haven't answered my question either. Again, what makes you think you can bypass the airflow meter and still have the engine run? Do you even know what the airflow meter is for?

so, its possible to run a T2 without the AFM , replaced with a Apexi filter & CAI tubing to the turbo ????

No it's NOT possible with the stock ecu, unless you buy a hks VPC (discontinued) or similar device. Which ain't a cheap option. Might as well buy a standalone.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. I kinda forgot to put the word *humor* next to the remark.
