Exclamation Help!!!

i have a 1986 GXL, my speedo cable disconnected and drags on the road below me. i put the cable back in and spun it, and the speedometer moved. but i dont know where to screw it back in at, its under the car somewhere that i cannot see or reach. i dont have a car jack either. PLEASE HELP ME FIND WHERE TO SCREW IT BACK INTO. Thank you!!

Screws into the drivers side of the tranny, right by the tranny crossmember. Jack the car up and you'll see. The cable has a key that has to be properly aligned.

But if it was dragging on the road, that end of the cable is likely severely damaged.

how do you expect to fix anything without a jack? there might still be the factory one on the driverside in the very rear of the car...under the carpet.

I think you also need to fill up the tranny with gear oil agian because it might be empty.

yea, i recommend buying a jack. what if you get a flat tire? I foresee a "help! stranded on the side of the road w/ no jack!" thread, lol.

lol thats funny, btw i got it fixed. i put it up on my buddys lift and i saw exactly where to screw it in at. the only thing is my speedometer wobbles when its moving, probably needs lube or something.

If the speedometer wobbles, the cable is failing. Oiling it may help in the short term but ultimately you'll need a new one. They're cheap...
