Hello, Im new

About to go pick up a 1988 FC Turbo. has a T3 turbo on it, boost controller, turbo timer, S-AFC, fuel cut killer, ignition, its street ported, has a custom exhaust manafold, after market radiator, and a electric fan, few extra things, the guy just spent 3000 dollars on a new rotorary engine from a newer year this happened about 5000 miles ago. it has 555cc primary njectors, and 980cc secondary. I want to do a compression test on it, what should it be at. what should I look for? I need a Rx7 :-D

Wow. That sounds like quite the set up you're gettin there. How much he askin for it? Anyhow, I imagine that if the mods were done right (and a compression test will show if that is the case) all elase should be cool. With 5k on the engine I bet it is in tip top shape. Got any pics? Welcome to the cult...er forum

Yeah, it is suppose to be the "fastest" import in WA.. I guess the guy beat a NSX. not too shabby if you ask me. Im not really sure what the compression is suppose to be at. Any ideas?

Here are some pics

Sorry that we don't know turbo lingo. We're only used to N/A FC's w/ automatics in this forum.
Oh wait, that's just me

Anyways, what is that on the rear of the fender? reminds me of an upside 10AE badge.

Looks like a nice car if its up to par

Its a Garret T3 Hybrid. It lags until about 3500-4000 RPM... then it seems to do pretty good.

Anyone know what the compression should be at on the rotarys?

It should be at about 110 at each mark, 3 times on each rotor. Anything over 100 is pretty good. If you get that car, take that HKS air filter off fast. Pieces of the foam disintegrate and get sucked up into the intake. Good luck and welcome

T3

Is using a Garret T3 Hybrid bad news on this engine? I know on my SR20DET it would be a pretty nice turbo... what about this engine? I dont know much about rotarys...

Thanks

And Thanks :-)

Is this bad? Im not really sure. The turbine side is HUGE compiared to the compressor size... housing wise.
also when it boosts the boost levels dont bounce around or anything.. it just sticks at about 8 PSI.

Should I get a HKS T51R-SPL??? is this turbo big enough?

Wait. Wait. Wait. A Garret T3 Hybrid that LAGS until 3500-4000 rpm's.

That is NOT a T3 if it LAGS

T3/T4 Hybrid on an SR20DET would be fine. Even a small T4 exhaust housing with a T-04E would be fine. But a T3 on an FC? WTF?

I want to see pics of this turbo.

Okay, with that post you need to stop right there. Do you know how BIG a T51R-SPL is. I have seen the smaller T51S, and it's a BEAST! I wouldn't use it on anything less than a bridgeport motor. And you think your "T3" has lag...

hrm... you really have an auto? I just bought a '91 N/A auto. it was in good condition, a great deal, and I needed a car (besides, I've always wanted a 2nd gen). I plan on eventually doing an auto->manual swap, but it'll be a while as I'm 17 and making about $300/month after insurance, and I still have to pay for gas and such (isn't the 18.5 gallon gas tank great?). Oh well, it gives me a car (and a nice one at that) to drive till I can afford to do the swap, and I'll more than likely do the intake/exhaust system before then, not to mention I want to replace the mechanical fan with an electric one if only to free up space in the engine bay, and I need to replace some little things in the interior (in fact I need to go to a junkyard sometime soon). But for right now it's running great. it's got 85k on it, though I need to do some rear suspension work. Oh well. Later!

hehe, i was playing about the T51R :-) hehe... thats a HUGE turbo... 102mm compressor wheel... h ehe :-)

here is a picture of the turbo... you can only really see the housing... the exhaust housing is almost 3 times bigger...

Depending on what type of T3 it is...It's hard to say. The compressor wheel actually looks like a stock FC compressor housing.

This is what a divided T4 looks like. The turbine to the left is a 60-1 in an .50 a/r. That's a "T4" turbine.

the exhaust housing looks like that.... but the compressor is small.... it doesnt look like a T3 housing... I have a T25 on my SR20... and it is bigger than the T25.... just doesnt look that big...

Thanks

T25's small when compared to a stock FC turbine. The stock FC exhaust housing isn't actually that "small" I've got one sitting in my room right now. I'll go pick it up tomorrow...it's almost 4 a.m. here

Also T4/T3 hybrid turbines tend to have LARGE compressor sides and modest hot sides, not the other way around.
