Talking headlight vent!

So yea i got really bored a long time ago, spent like 2 days stripin screwes and got the headlight cover off. Long story short, I got this:

So i kno some haters/non believers are gonna get mad but w/e I think it is gonna help. I found a drawing of a Naca duct, blew it up some, and cut it out and traced it on the headlight were i liked it. Then cut it out. Could be done in like 1 hour total if u have everything u need.

More pics.

and my fave...

That is all.

Oh and for yall who wanna complain about the rain, I happen to have found some of those leather headlight covers in the rear bins from the P.O. so when it rains im just gonna pop that sucker on there.

If i can make a suggestion go to a glass shop and ask for some double stick tape and u can make it look like my old one. Also using cardbord can help out make a good fit b4 u cut it.
P.s it looking good though

I wanna box for mine, only problem is I have the K&N intake and its a 4'' hole, so the cone is HUGE. But I think I can get some cardboard and do a couple drafts, then cut my own. See how it works... But I do want that headlight vent. Would you recomend just getting a spare and trying it out? Or should I spend $100.00 on one...

You really need to make some sides for it. Too bad you couldn't have made it straight.

It's not going to help much because you forgot to incorporate the entrance lip, and the cross-sectional inlet area is not big enough for the application. It is also not quite aligned with the relative wind (longitudinal axis of the car), and it could use a little more divergence, but those two factors don't make much difference on a street car anyway. On the good side, the ramp angle looks efficient.

Even though it will provide no significant performance gain, I still think it looks good.

Yours isn't a "NACA" duct because it has 0 divergence. It is just a plain submerged duct. There is nothing wrong with that, but the one TheDarkRacer built is more efficient.

It's so small, efficiency is more or less meaningless. I made mine protruding into the airflow to get the maximum flow that I could out of the available opening size. I don't really have a closeup picture of it at the moment though.

Woo! i got some buzz in my thread! lol
anyways, ive been busy tryn to start a lil business and havent started to finish the box. But i didnt make it go to the front cuz i didnt wanna rely on the headlight duct for the only fresh air. Im debating if i should slap the snorkel on there just cuz. And i kno my duct isnt to spec (too lazy atm to put some putty on the sides lol) but ill do that one day. I really doesnt take too long to cut it if you have a steady hand. The metal isnt too thick.

But about it being too small to make a diff... i doubt that. It should be enough to give me maybe 1hp lol thats all i want. Plus to have a scoop type thing you have to angle it right or its just gonna be shoving air any witch way... kinda like mine haha... o well it looks cool :P
~TDR

Edit: spooled up, send me yours and 30bucks and ill do it. Free return shipping haha.

Oh cool, we have another aerospace analyst on the forum besides me. I earned my degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and St. Petersburg College. Where did you earn yours?

No, that one is only for low speed. The grating is going to murder the airflow. It also doesn't have an entrance lip. Was this home-made, or do the manufacturers of these things just neglect to have an engineer review their products prior to public sale? Maybe they don't care and just sell them as bling rather than as performance products? Hmm.

Oh, I take it that you don't have a degree then. So basically "haters/non believers" would be those who are educated in this subject, and those who think this would work are dumbass kids? I guess I don't quite follow the logic of how knowing the subject is a bad thing, and being ignorant is a good thing. Is shifting the blame supposed to change the laws of physics or something?

Somebody with a real job who gets paid enough per hour that it would not be worth the time to make their own as opposed to simply buying one pre-made.

To be fair he will get a little bit of air in there, so it's better than nothing, but not enough to run the engine off of that air alone, so with an airbox that's sealed around the edges the engine will be sucking air through any gaps there are.

Also, you remembered to remove the weather stripping on the edge of the hood, right?
