header question......all you with them, please help
I recently bought a header from a guy here in town. I was lookin at how it will go in, and saw something that looks like an O2 sensor plugging into the top of the stock exhaust manifold. What is that thing, and how do I get it into my new header, if I need it????? Thanks for the help in advance.............
You do need the o2 sensor, if you want the car to run right. What brand header is it? It should have a O2 sensor bung already in it. If not, get one from www.summitracing.com, it's like $10, and have a shop weld it in. Without it, the ECU won't know how rich/lean to run the fuel map, and you may loose power.

Doesn't look like any RB header I've seen. Mine is polished, has the Racing Beat logo CUT into the engine flange portion of it. It's also one piece, has the o2 bung, and very well crafted (actually, it's a thing of beauty). I'm not saying it IS NOT a RB header; it just doesn't look like mine.
Yup, there's only ONE thing that plugs into the exhaust manifold, has a wire comin' outta it's head called an o2 sensor! Very necessary. Can't live without them on a fuel-injected car very easily.
Okay, the SIMPLE way to do the o2 (not correct by ANY means, but it'll getcha going.... maybe) would be to drill-out a hole 1/16 of an inch smaller than the diameter of the o2 sensor THREADS (not the o2 sensor as a whole). do it right where the 2 pipes physically join into one large pipe (called a collector). Make sure your o2 sensor isn't going to bang into the floorboard or firewall. Put a bunch of high-copper silicone (has to have copper in it, or it will just desintegrate) and put it all over the BASE of the o2 sensor and cover the threads, paying SPECIAL ATTENTION NOT TO COVER THE VENTED SENSOR HOUSING. then, take a 7/8" wrench and thread it in. It's ghetto as hell, free to do, and works well. OR you can do it the right way and have a shop install a bung for a couple of dollars ($25 here in Missouri)
Hope this helps.

That very closely resmbles an RB road race header. Those shouldnt come with O2 bungs. The flange is odd looking though.
Anyway, just drill a hole in the header, get a nut with the correct threads and weld it on the header. Screw the sensor into that.

People, there are only like 2 RB headers that come with the O2 hole.
I dont have it on mine, but I'm gona swap my 2" header and mid pipe for the stock manifold and 2.5" race pipe.
so I'll just plug my O2 back when I do that.
My car is runnung too rich right now.
