Header question

First and foremost, I did use the search function, but I'm not sure on everything I read.

I would like to put a header (looked at racing beat, seems to be the best choice) on my '91 NA. I would also like to pass emissions (keep the cat). In my searches if I recall the header doesn't reach the cat, and a pipe is needed from the header to the cat. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone used a header with a cat? Thanks.

The header will not bolt up to the main cat. I am running a cat with my header on my N/A. I just welded some flanges onto the cat to make it reach from the header tot he cat-back. I will be selling my RB header and the cat (Bonez H-F cat.. ~$300 from rx7.com) if you would be interested. They probably only have about 500-1000 miles on them. I didnt drive it too much after they were installed, and now Im doing a T2 swap and I wont need them.. PM me if your interested.

Sadly I can't afford anything really for my rex (no job) right now, but thanks for the offer. I need to know if I can just buy the header and attach a custom pipe from the stock cat to the header and If this pipe is straight or needs to bend.

You local muffler shop should be able to weld up an adapter (like rxmfn7 did) for maybe $40.

i have a header on my 90 N/A.... just put on the header ...when i comes time for your inspection ... just find a shop that will pass you and pay them a little extra... a header with a high flow cans.... its has a little more power after 6k rpm... it feels good when you shift and you hear a pop from the exhaust

Well I plan on keeping the cat and making the custom pipe. I can pass emissions this way cause I still have the cat.

I think that MindTrain makes a header that will bolt to the stock cat.

Or I know for sure that they make a header/cat combo that bolts to the stock 'y-pipe'.

Cool! 600 posts and counting!

do not get racing beat
talk to Fred at Mind-Train or Stan at SDJ Motorsports
they can make you headers that can bolt up the the stock cat and make nice power over racing beat
