Having trouble sperating UIM and LIM

The car turbo 2, series 5. I'm having trouble seperating the Upper intake with TB from the lower intake. The engine is still in the car and i've been getting quite aggressive with it,so thought I'd take a time out and ask you guys before i break something.

I've undone all the bolts around join and also the bolt on the expansion elbow.

Maybe try heating up the sides and then use a soft (brass) hammer to hit it loose?

even though you want the uim off, its good to prep every first. Take off vaccum lines, brake booster, tps, throttle cable possibley too. After that there are 5-6 bolts that actually bolt the uim on. Most people undo those first and wait till they are yanking on a wire or hose

yea, initial d is real is right. if it's anything like the vdi chamber->uim connection, there's like 3-4 bolts on top and 2 UNDERNEATH. disconnecting all your vacuum lines is very important so you don't accidentally break anything

It is already all done, I'm doing this as per the manual.

Ie, coolant is drained, trottle cable off, vac lines off, also removed the alternator for better access, oil filler tube removed, electrical lines disconnected and labelled.

Been playing for ages trying to get the two intakes to part, just felt like i might break something. I have thought about heating the thing up but need a blow lamp which i dont have.

use a steak knife and cut the gasket bewteen the two. go around the gap where the gasket was cut out and use a putty knife to walk them apart... if there too hard to pry apart just keep cutting the gasket out till they come apart with firm force ..... also u can try shocking it by hitting them with some wood while holding the peice in the air and the vibrations may break it free

I pryed mine loose the first time with a bar from a small jack. Stuck it under the manifold, and rocked it up and down for a min. Not really hard or anything. Popped off without too much effort.. Since then it has been easy to remove. Just make sure there isn't anything you're gonna upset under there. Mine is S4, so not sure if the S5 the same. Someone here can confirm that, I'm sure. The only point holding together still should be the UIM to LIM gasket if everything else is done.

i beat mine with a socket wrench (all out of hammers and rubber mallets). after that i just decided to remove the uim w/the vdi chamber connected, and after i got it removed i realized that there were a couple bolts (underneath) that i didn't see.

obviously yours is turbo, but the idea could be the same

hahahaha i really hope that was for laughs...

try getting something underneath it, and away from the fuel rail, and use some leverage to pry it up. the longer the extension, the more force applied.

at this point, buy a used upper and lower and put them aside when you take a 5lb sledge to it to break the seal of the stubborn ones, just in case.

somebody probably put silicone on the gasket. just like everyone else said. whack it with mallet and pop it off with a crowbar.

At the firewall side, there is a small lip where you can use something like a large screw driver to pry it off.
You don't want to whack that thing.

I'd say +1 on the rubber mallet, but you said you did that already.

Hmmm, get someone else to look at it...even a wife, gf, or other person. You may have missed something obvious. I once undid all bolts on an SR20DE valve cover, well, except the ones in the middle between the spark plugs. Lucky I didn't screw it up.

They are apart!!!

Switch the rubber mallet for normal harmer, lightly tapped the join and they came apart nicely.

Rubber mallet just wasn't causing enough of a shock!!
