Have you used a Vert Airbag?

Has anyone ever had the unfortunate chance to test out a vert airbag? I have a 91 vert and Im not too confident in the 18 year old airbag technology. How was it? Did it blow your head off?

I have the expectations that if it were to go off, moths would just fly out or something to that effect

haha. I try not to use my aribag, but sometimes you cant help it. A Cadillac ran a redlight not long ago and I almost T-boned him... Kinda got me thinking what would happen if a rock hard, 20 year old, piece of fabric exploded in my face!

You count on these things to save your life, but at nearly 20 years old, can they really be trusted?

most airbags have an expiration date, I know the ones on my old honda it was recommended they be changed every 6 to 8 years from what one of the dealer mechanics had told me.

I have seen airbags detonated on the floor outside...........**** that! this thing flew an easy 30ft in the air. and it was newer....i think it was from a early 2000s ford.

and I have heard the velocity of an airbag coming out is about 200mph

Come on guys... are you really suggesting to people that they take out their airbags? You could be responsible for somebody's death.

The alternative may be a basal skull fracture or other major injuries from abrupt deceleration. Airbags aren't meant to be comfy, they're meant to regulate the decel of your upper body.

It's usually pretty easy to pull out an airbag unit from the steering wheel if you want to check any expiration warnings, etc. Just disconnect the battery as a failsafe.

I've had my airbag out of my 90 Vert-there is no warning or expiration date printed on it anywhere. I put back where it belonged when I was through with my project.

Toyota's have a light that illuminates on the dash when a fault exists, or after 10 years. Toyota considers that the effective age limit of the airbag.

If you are afraid of the early generation airbags, make sure that you don't sit close to the bag. Learn to drive with your legs and arms extended; don't drive a car with one if you are under about 5'2"-this puts you at greater risk. Everyone bitches about the S5 mouse belts but they won't kill you like a first gen airbag could.
