have to wedge afm open to start started...
i posted a few days ago that my car would start up then cut off. some1 suggested to me that i poke open the afm and viola it starts up and idles. i used a rubber hose cut to the diameter of the afm opening to wedge the plunger open just a crack at all times so i could drive it around. this works fine except at partial throttle the car is rather jumpy. i can mess around with the hose sometimes to make it drive a little better but im constantly pushing the hose closer or farther in the afm and adjusting my idle. what can i do to fix this mess?? thanks in advance.
The fuel pump safety switch in the AFM is broken. Its purpose is to shut the fuel pump off in the event of an accident (engine stalls, ignition on). This stops fuel being pumped out of broken fuel lines, which is not a good thing... If the switch doesn't close when the AFM flap opens, the pump won't run.
There's a 2-pin yellow plug beside the RHS strut tower. Jumpering this plug bypasses the switch in the AFM so you can check the pump without running the engine. Doing this will get you mobile without your dodgy sounding rubber hose. You should only do this as a temporary measure! Get the AFM fixed or replace it.

You have any tar like substance in your airbox or AFM? I had it all over mine, ended up being hte rubber gasket on the filter that had melted or something and gummed up everything, i ended up replacing the airbox filter and afm with a set from a junkyard for $17
P.S. My car would idle like ****, and/or die if you didnt keep it reved up before it got warmed up (probably made the tarlikeshit a lot less solid)
