have RB springs, want a little more drop in the front only

I have RB coupe springs in my vert, they are pretty much brand new, KYB AGX's which are new.

I want a little more drop in the front, I think the rear is just about right for the roads and how I drive the car.

I was thinking of the RB front lowering kit, which puts them 3/4" lower and will not change ride quality, but for the price I can probably buy new springs and sell off my current ones.

I do not want coil-overs, I had them in my coupe and I hated them.

the Front Suspension Lowering Kit utilizes Racing Beat-modified top strut mounts to lower the front of the 1986-1992 RX-7 approximately 3/4-inch, without adversely affecting wheel travel or ride comfort.

The kit is a bolt-on design that does not require any cutting of the strut towers and may be used with our Racing Beat Suspension Spring Set to further lower ride height. The kit fits all 1986-92 RX-7’s, except those equipped with Auto Adjust suspensions.

I have all new upper mounts.

I'm running Tokico blues and Eibach Springs. My front appears to sit lower than yours, however my rear sits higher. Maybe throw some Eibachs on the front?

Sorry it's not very clear with the wheel turned. I'd take a better picture but it's on stands right now awaiting some brake parts.

by the way racing beat advertises their springs to be a 1" drop, so if someone knows of a spring that is 1.5-1.75 that would be what I need

what drop do those eibachs have?

plan B would be to do some measuring, and buy 2.5" springs in the same rate, and a pair of coil over adjusters for the front...

I agree, since coil-overs are bad for the OP...

Do you include ground control coil-over conversion kits out of the question? Their springs are made by eibach which are pretty tame relatively speaking, and you can use your current shocks/struts. It's a shock/spring combo just with a sleeve, so it's not going to ride like integrated coilovers. I know you know about these, any reason why you don't want them?

RSR race springs were really low, but a lot stiffer... but they're discontinued as far as I know.

I am going to ask the guy who bought my coupe how he likes his new set up, he had the teins rebuilt and STILL ended up replacing them because like me he did not like the bouncy ride.

so far it is looking like the RB lowering kit is my option

Eibach's are 1" drop I believe.

Have you considered cutting a ring off of your Racing Beat Springs? That will give you a little more drop.

There are mixed reviews about cutting springs, but I figure if it was a problem then Foose would not air it it on his show.

i guess I could cut the coil, and if I dont like it replace it with something else.
I would lose the ability to resell the spring but I guess that is a gamble I would have to take?

If you do cut them use a grinder, not a torch

yeah that was my point, the ERS springs come in any length and rate you can imagine (and some you can't!).

the only real problem is that they are 2.5" diameter, not tapered like the stock ones. in theory you don't need the height adjusting hardware

An oxy-acetylene torch is used to heat and bend the last coil so it sits flush.

Eibach claims .85"

My front sits slightly lower than yours, Eibach prokits (turbo part number) and Tokico Blues.

Do you have the convertible version of the RB springs? RB advertises the verts springs to be lower spring rate than the coupe (136 lb/" vs 156 lb/"). If you have coupe springs, the vert front version might give you a little lower height.

just use a circular saw with carbide blade. cut the spring 1/4 turn at a time, install it and take the car for a drive for about 5 miles. That will give more than enough time for the spring/strut to settle. Then cut 1/4 turn again if you must. Darn RX-7 owners make life too complicated.

I have the coupe version because it advertises more of a drop, and the convertible is heavier so I figured it would also drop more. I had spoken with them about it when I put them in, cant quite recall what came of it. I also think I dismissed the 20# spring rate difference and concentrated on the advertised drop

If I can get away with another 3/4" I will probably go for the lowering kit.
