hatches and mirrors question

just wondering if s4 and s5 hatches with wipers were cosmetically and wired up the same?

also wondering if all the s5 sideview mirrors were aero TII looking ones. thanks.

Pretty sure there were no changes to the hatches across series. My S4 GTU had a rusted hatch frame and I swapped one in from an S5 GTU and they were identical. Could there be any differences between the hatches that had wipers? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Regarding the mirrors, in the U.S. all S5 mirrors were the "Aero" style. However, I see you have a 1990 Canada-spec GX. I had a friend with one of those, and I believe they had the matte black S4-style non-aero mirrors from the factory. Not sure about the other Canadian trim lines.

What is an aerial mirror? I have a 88 vert and the mirrors have holes in the frame, is that it?

Yes and no. I thought we were referring to the S5 Aero mirror in the above posts. The car in the picture you posted has the S4-style Aero mirrors, which I believe appeared only in 1988. If you see them side-by-side, you'll immediately see the difference. The S4 Aero mirror is smaller and more angular with harder edges. The S5 Aero mirror is rounder and larger and has a "plumper" appearance, for lack of a better word.

S4 (1988) style on the left, S5 (89-92) style on the right:

There would be a little difference in the hatch wiring as S4 had the light on the hatch strut and S5 had the light mounted inside on the body so to speak

I guess if you're talking in terms of wiring in the hatch area, yes. But the wiring for the hatch strut light in an S4 car runs from the light along the strut and into a hole in the B-pillar trim on the passenger side. There is no wiring in the hatch frame itself for the light.

yes true but the wiring for the wiper is run up the hatch strut as the wiring for the light is (although just on different sides)
aside from that the only other wiring there would be is for the rear defrost which I cant see being much different on any car
