Hatch Weight
For those with track cars who are interested...
I had to build a lexan hatch for a customer and was quite surprised when I did the weigh in at the end.
Stock wiperless hatch - 51lbs
Lexan Hatch - 30lbs
The hatch with a wiper would certainly be more, but I didn't weigh one so you're on your own there
The hatch frame was left alone, I simply cut out the window riveted in the lexan (after painting a black frite around the lexan) and butyl sealant was used on the inside. As well, some of the inside trim was re-installed on the frame (not much, but maybe 1 pound)
You could go further by hole-sawing some holes in the frame itself, and by omitting ALL sealant if it were a true race car, but this guy wanted to keep any moisture out if possible.
But there's an easy 20lbs for all you diet lovers out there
