Hatch vs vert

So I'm going to be picking up a 86 gxl but it needs a new engine(has really low compression) and I have a vert and could just swap them. The 86 has a stage 2 clutch and a LSD since its the gxl. Should I take the time to swap it all over and use the hatch? I do want to drift which makes me think its be better. Should I do this or just stick with the vert? I'm also picking up the gxl for 500.

I would move it over. That LSD is gonna be mega nice for drifting.

Much easier to move the LSD to the Vert than the engine to the coup.

Sell vert and buy another engine or rebuild the one in the gxl, you should come out ahead

But m gonna need a cage for my vert to drift most events which will cost me a decent amount and it does rain where I live and I do need a new top since mine is ripped a lot. But is it really worth it to swap engines? I also daily mine aswell.

That sounds like a better idea Rob. I'll probably do that instead.

Verts are nice, but heavier. If you are going to be racing, lighter is always better. Plus, cages can be expensive.

Yeh that's true. How much does a rebuild usually cost? Or would it be cheaper to just get a new engine?

This will not end well, you seem woefully unprepared for the project you propose.

The first- and most intractable- problem is the concept of tracking your daily driver, which is just crazy.
Every time the car goes on the track you have to be prepared to kiss it off, even a relatively minor mishap can render it undriveable.

There are no "new engines" stockpiled for sale, every engine is a rebuild these days.
I'd figure an absolute minimum cost for a rebuild to be @ 2k and that can escalate quickly depending on condition of core parts (rotors, housings, plates) and desired power levels.

I know a few people with good engines here and getting it wouldn't be a problem and I know it wouldn't be a good idea to track a daily, but its pretty much all I cab do for now. I know what it can lead to and I'm willing to risk that.
