Talking Has anyone? Injector bung on Turbo.....

I was was looking at some turbo setups on some very quick and high HP racecars, a couple setups had an injector bung on the Turbo itself. The thoery behind it was to inject fuel into the turbo itself on initial throttle. The injector was hooked up to a momentary response of some kind and it would inject fuel briefly into the turbine almost instantly boosting, virtually boosting at idle..lol. Has anyone used a setup like this? It is supposed to be very effective for acceleration. Anyways your thoughts or comments would be great. Not that I will ever do this to my car but it seemed like a pretty neat idea, similar to nitrous just with regular pump gas. Anyways let the fun begin.

They used to use it on the old group B rally cars...they threw six foot flames from the exhaust at idle. The turbo never spooled down. good idea for a racecar thats going to have its exhaust manifold and turbo replaced every few races. I've heard of it referred to as a 'misfire system' by some people and its used mainly for anti-lag when exiting a corner

Not a good idea, I say it's a bad idea because you are spraying a liquid on a rotating object spinning at about 70000 RPM and that liquid will errode the compressor wheel, making it out of balance, and possibly tearing your whole turbo apart.

i would say, if yo'ure thinkin' a drag type of scenario then a simple soft-rev limiter would work better i think. A LOT less damage to the turbo, no engine damage...just seems like a better way to go about it to me. Maybe not as effective, but much safer.

Well its used in race applications for a reason......FREQUENT maintenance and replacement parts......on a street or even semi street car I don't see it having such a large benefit that it would be worth the greater increased cost of maintenance.


However if I had a lot of money and raced these things Id try that **** out for sure

but that was on the turbine, not the compressor side... by increasing the temp in the manifold, you are increasing the velocity of the air( since heated air expands) and therefore it spools the *** outta the turbo..

it also requires a pricey setup, injectors are not normally accustomed to upwards of 1600* F of temperature.

liquid eroding the turbine? how long do you think it stays a liquid in the exhaust manifold? lol.
