I just bought another FC(88GXL) and this is the first time ive noticed it... but while it was warming up, with the clutch pressed in, I put the shifter in first and the engine idled up? I put in all the gears and it did it... does anyone know what causes that? there was one instance where my Miata would do somthing similar, but when in gear with clutch in, it would idle down and try to die(not like the clutch wasnt disengauging or anything. more like the idle went down) it did it like 3 times and never happend agian...

any thoughts?

 

If you have all your emissions stuff on there it is *supposed* to rev to 3k when you start it up, if the transmission is NOT in gear. It should drop down to i think about 1.5k if you push in the clutch and put it in gear.

You say yours revs up higher when you put it in gear?

 

yeah, after the "start up" has ended...

 

it happens to me too, though i just dont pay attention to it :P

 

i have an 89 gxl that does that too

 

My rpms go down after I let out the clutch *out of gear* and when I push it it, back up. car will sometimes die when I let out on the clutch too....bleh.
