GXL to turbo swap, need advice on series and fuel management

Whats up guys. OK I plan on doing a turbo swap soon and i need some advice. I have already purchased a running turbo II to do the swap but the engine has 100k on it and I'd rather not use it. So I'm going to pull everything from the turbo and swap it into mine except the engine. What would you guys do for an engine? A series 5 or a series 4 or a j-spec? I'm probably going to run an aftermarket fuel computer so ECU's shouldn't be an issue. I figure if i go with a j-spec they're only like 1200 bucks. at that rate i can change them like brake pads. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Series 5 are a little bit better, better turbos and such, though they've got the dreaded electronic oil pumps, however it's simpler just to stick within the same series as the car, and j-specs (series 4 or series 5) aren't gauranteed to be good, so they're like playing the lotto.

yeah i agree with the lotto aspect but the price is nice. why do you think its simpler to stay with the same series? wouldn't i basically be swapping out everything anyway?

Because most commonly, you'll run into some problem or other, and not be able to afford the standalone, so you'll be stuck using stock harnesses/engine management, so thus why it's usually easier to stay with the same series :-D

i hear what your saying sonic but thats not an issue. A stand alone is the only way to go. I make a lot of money so not being able to afford anything is also a non issue. I also have alot of time because my GXL is currently running great with only 70k on the engine I swapped in last year. So if you had the time....and the money... whats the best setup?

Well the chassis won't make much a difference if you get the engine built/go standalone. A s4 is lighter from the factory than a s5, the s5 has lighter rotors and such, you could swap in the turboII driveline, you just have to swap flywheels as well. If money isn't an issue, then get the engine built up to suit your needs.

so i could swap in the driveline now with a different flywheel and clutch? so couldn't i just swap in the rear end with the half shalfts now? my front diff. bushing on my gxl is shot so if im gonna drop my rear to fix it, i figure maybe i'll drop in the turbo rear and get started on some of the work I need to accomplish

Nope, can't do that, driveshafts are different lengths, so you have to do tranny at the same time.

ok so maybe i should wait on everything then. dont feel like doing a flywheel and clutch and rear without doing the engine. I guess i'll just strip the turboII and look into ordering up my engine. BTW do you know which component (rear or tranny) is longer or shorter than the N/A? I mean why is the driveshaft a different length? is it because of the length of the tranny differing or the rear end differing or both?
