If you look you see GXL on every brochure specification except for 91, when all the NAs switched to simply Coupe.

86-88 gxl's were pretty mucs as they were in the s5 range too. They were always e little more luxurious and had power. Sgt. pepper you know how many people i tried to tell that to and they never believe me? AAAAAGGGHHH! Anyways you can always tell usually if its a gxl by simply looking for the rear window wiper. Its just a quick way. If its not a gxl in s4 era it will be a SE with nothing but a sunroof, Or of course a t2. In s5 era it will be basically the same only they did not call them SE anymore they simply went to the gtu model until 91 and then called them coupes. But the best way is to always look for the window wiper.
