Is this the TB mod? I am not familiar with it but From what I skimmed through I think it is? Some people say the TB mod is good and some donn't and say you will regret it if you do it to your car.

Well I was going to make some remark like *Blessed are you my son for asking*, but it's Sunday.

While this disfunctional site was pissing me off yesterday, I spent a few minutes looking at that other site, and I read that post.

My answer is a negative one. It's similar to the only post I have ever made on/in the LOUNGE. The words are the same I had for the fellow who wrote that thread in the Lounge that I answered. You have to search using Hailers and looking only for the single solitary post I have written in the LOUNGE. By the way, those words I used are not meant for YOU, but the fellow who wrote the link that you posted.

EDIT: Yeah. A convoluted answer. You might try what he did if you have spare junk laying around, but never on your one and only.

I would not recommend that mod. No, I am not one of the names in the title of this thread but I can see that removing material which separates the primary and secondary chambers defeats the entire purpose of tuned length intake runners, designed by Mazda to allow the "tournament effect" which slings incoming air back and forth through the manifold and dynamic chamber in sequence with the opening and closing engine ports. The reason the S4 (second gen RX7) NA manifold is curved where the runners meet the surge tank as opposed to the square shape of the Gsl-Se manifold is to enhance this effect.

It is so funny when anyone with a Dremel thinks that removing material at will "enhances air flow".

There is a reason Mr. Cake has not responded: he is bloody tired of this kind of **** being posted by fools who have no concept of the reasoning behind an NA Rx-7's intake system. Blasphemous Rubbish, it is!

"I read Playboy for the articles, and, watch **** for the music." Sure Fikshun, sure. I'll bet it's hard to type with all that vaseline on your fingers.

Roy James.......I forget the title of the long boring article in the LOUNGE, but my answer to that thread was *the author of this thread has **** for brains*. They probably deleted my answer. It was one of my hit and run answers. I had no idea I had written more than one time in the LOUNge. Must be drinking more than I thought.

I wouldn't recommend doing that mod myself, but if someone has lots of time and spare parts he can experiment for himself. Nothing lost except some parts...forever. Its just that I read articles like http://www.mazda.com/history/rotary/e3-1.html and see how proud the Mazda folk are of their dynamic chamber and the time and effort that went into that design and am a little skeptical that this mod mentioned in the beginning thread above is valid.

I recently went through the thought process for the idea of a single chamber plenum and discovered that the intake velocity would tank so badly when the throttle was opened any faster than miss daisy would approve of, that its not worth it. Your motor will choke on that much air that rapidly. Not to mention the turbulence you're creating in the area behind the throttle butterflies. Flow is not improved with this mod, displacement in the dynamic chamber is increased but most likely has no gains. Drivability will suffer as will fuel consumption.

I ported my dynamic chamber to allow for smoother transitions beyond the openings (rounded edges) and did my best to smooth the entrances to the primary runners. (secondaries were fine) The porting of the upper intake manifold consisted of eliminating the casting marks and smoothing the runner diameters in the secondaries. While I'm sure mazda had some reason for leaving a flat spot on the entrance to the secondary runners, I decided to go for the removal of that material as they appear to be a manufacturing necessity rather than a performance feature. (the casting thickness would be pretty thin without it in that region)

I noticed a decent gain in performance from my mods, but wouldn't place a HP claim to them. I can't see how eliminating the dual chamber intake would provide any benefits without a single butterfly TB and a complete re-design. The gains would most likely only be seen over 8K at that.

Thanks guys.. just wanted some opinions..

And before everyone gets confused.. no I wasn't the one who wrote that post, just wanted some opinions.

88IntegraLS, doesn't matter if you were listed.. just wanted to get the attention of the "All Knowing".. haha

I guess I could use my spare parts, but after reading this.. I don't think so.

Thanks all,

Fikshun

We've had discussions like this before.&nbsp All the people who advocate such ideas have yet to drop dyno sheets to prove it's worth.&nbsp It might make better top end power, but your low end will suffer a lot.

I've done the mod. I personally couldn't feel the difference in throttle response, but I did HATE having to hold my foot on the gas pedal to warm up the engine. Basically, it's not worth it.

P.S.: I'd love to see Hailers and RETed post on some of those annoying political threads on the lounge. I now know why it's avoided like the plague.
