CO Guess im to dumb for this site. Lol

Hello i just picked up an 86 Gxl for 500, blown motor. So i am replacing it with a 13bt.
I have a S5 motor and the car is S4. I have read just about every thread on swapping and everyone says oh dont do this dont do that do it this way cause S5 in an S4 takes fabrications and mods, then they post a link on how to do it staying in your own series. but they never say what kind of modding you have to do.
i have everything motor, tranny, flywheel, clutch, injectors, ecu, wiring harness, and other things.
i have been able to collect that i will need a new fuel pump, a new boost sensor, extend a couple vacuum hoses and that the JDM motor fuel lines run the opposite way.
but other than that is there any changes to the chassis engine bay, or motor that i will have to preform?

or if you can just give me a link or better key words to search with that would be awesome.

sorry for the repetitive posting of turbo swap but i have read every post and its taking too long.
thanks in advance

The motor will bolt in just fine, but wiring it is the hard part. The plugs on the ECU are all different. If you try to switch to an S5 ECU, the engine harness will plug in, but the rest of the harness (from the car itself) that has to plug into the ECU won't fit.

thank you Need RX7. how many plugs go to ECU for non emissions stuff. Are they going to be the same controls to be able to rewire with S5 plugs?

HAHA thanks for pointing that out Squeeb. i was debating on which form to use..lol

if the car was only $500, and you have s5 parts. why not just buy an S5. and sell the S4?

it will make life simpler.

I put an S5 13bt in my 87 turbo II. I'd suggest you get an S4 ecu and modify your current non-turbo s4 engine harness to work on the turbo S5 motor (I've heard you can do that, but mine was turbo so I didn't need to).

Then you put the S4 front cover and OMP on the S5 motor (check out mazdatrix.com they have info about removing front cover). When you remove the front cover the engine must be either lying on it's back (the flywheel), or if in the car, hold the clutch down with a piece of wood.

You will have to use the flywheel that matches the series motor your using because of the counterweight. The oil drain tube on the s5 turbo, might not match the s4 front cover, this is not something I read, I discovered it when doing my swap. I had the s4 turbo drain of course, but I guess you might not, seeing as how your starting with a non turbo.

There is a way to get the S5 turbo injectors to work with the S4 harness, but I don't remember where I read that or how to do so (I think you just remove and splice a few wires in the harness?). If you don't do that than you'll need S4 turbo injectors, also you'll need a downpipe and a way to either attach it to your current exhaust or get an aftermarket full turbo back exhaust.

Anyways you should check out the 2nd gen tech section at www.rotaryresurrection.com and look for some other websites, check out mazdatrix.com.

GL.

If you get stuck and can't figure out where some wires go just post pictures and use ms paint to circle and put big red arrows pointing to what you want to know. You will get fast replies!

You can actually pick up a Microtech used for a few hundred dollars if you look. Check the for sale section of post a WTB ad. You will then have the ability to continue to play and add power and be able to tune for it. You do not have to be "rich" to go standalone.

alright, i tried to pull the blown engine yesterday and i'm down to the oil cooler lines and the starter. the top starter bolt threads stripped inside the tranny and i cant get it out....any ideas?

and i don't have the right size wrench for the oil cooler lines to the block. one needs an open end wrench and the other is good for a socket. but i noticed they arent the same size. what size do i need?

5 transmission bolts: One "underneath" the starter, one at the bottom passenger corner, upper driver's corner, and two upper passenger's corner.

yeah its not striped you just need a 14mm wrench on the other end, there is a bracket blocking your view of it from under the car but its there.

Hi Their, everthing should bolt over with no drama's or if one pops up it will be minor,s5 wireing harness in a s4 can be done, but the harness could be broken or faulty if not known were the harness comes from to much of a risk to take. but time consuming i dont think it's worth the stress or trouble, buy or lay-by a microtech computer and keep your s4 harness if it's good,s4 turbo and non-turbo fuel pumps are the same,All the best A
