i thought about keeping the rear end but I'd rather wait and get a turbo INFINI rear end instead of the NA 4.30 rear end.

to be honest: I don't know. I only know it exists. The gearing difference is not too important to me right now so i haven't researched it at all. I have a lot of work left to do in my car and I'm not going to focus on things like that until later in my build is almost done.

If you really want a TII then I suggest you sell the GTUs and buy a TII.

I bought this GTUs without a motor and tranny (rolling chassis) and I had a crashed TII so the swap made sense. I swapped everything over, sold the GTUs rear end and the left-over TII parts from the parts car and now I have a GTUs with TII power and drivetrain.

to recap: If you have a nice, RUNNING GTUs then don't bother with the TII swap and just sell it and buy a TII.

If you have a dead GTUs then DO IT!
this is something that i would like to do. i have an 89 GTU that i got for $300 and i originally bought it as a parts car for my 91 GXL [i needed the entire back half of an interior and the High Beam Lenses] I would really like to convert the gtu into a t2 but i still have not fully decided if i should get a JDM S4 T2 or get the JDM S5 TII. I am debating this because i know that the s4's have a lower compression ratio than the s5's. i would make it into a trackcar and would not register it, i would just keep my gxl fully stock [oh yeah] and keep it as a daily driver. aprox how many hours would you say you put into the conversion? thanks

any criticisom [i cant spell] or comments welcome.

I put in the equivalent of full week working 8-hour days. In real time it took me a month only working on weekends and rushing. I woud tell you to take your time and do it in about 2 weeks so you can do the work properly. I'm still working out the bugs from my rushed install.

How serious are you about building the track car? If you're deadly serious then I'd source different engine parts and make a custom frankenmotor with the best of the S4, S5 and S6 motors.

im in school right now, but im really setting my mind on making it a fully out track car so i can keep my racing addiction in a safe environment rather than risking my life and the life of others on the street.
what s6 parts would you use? i understand the s4 and s5 mix-n-matching but the s6 you got me stumpted

If you're in California the new engine has to be from a same year or newer than the old engine.

being in california has nothing to do with it. You can have a 90 or 91 and put in an 89 TII motor and it won't matter.

The day I meet a cop that can tell the difference between an S4 and S5 motor i'll be surprised. Most probably don't know how the doritos on sticks work!

well. i figure. if i HAD money, i would take an s5 chassis, and TII swap into it, replace basically everything. the only difference between a GTUs and a GTU or having an orig TII is just sunroof, manual windows, and tilt wheel. i was going to put coilovers anyway, and the aluminum fenders i don't really mine so much. as for the 4.3 final drive, do you mean that in the tranny? or in the differential? either way can't i just get one from an infini and ship it here? has nothing to do with emissions so i don't see why it would be illegal in CA. then there you go. i'd like to keep the GTUs but the diff between that and what are just options at dealer. the only main thing is the sunroof. (is there a way to seal up a sun roof? like... putting in a sheet metal and welding it? haha) also, i was thinking of putting an FD tranny anyway instead. what's the final drive on an FD?
