GTUs and new shoes: Pt. II
Yo,
As you know, the GTUs just got new shoes:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=270383
I decided to break in the Kumho MX's on one of Doc Wong's famous driving tours:
http://www.docwong.com/Autos/index.htm
A funny thing happened when we stopped...a crowd formed around one specific car...
Hmmm, which car among all that high performance hardware had drawn the gearheads like bees to honey?
If they would just part...there!
*chuckle* People always trip on my car.
Anyways, a lot of folks thought the new wheels were bigger than 17". "Are those 18's? 19's?! They're huge!"
Oh, and I got the question that I've heard at Thunderhill a few times:
"What does it have? Turbo? Supercharger?"
Me: "Nah, just normally aspirated. 1300cc's."
Heh.
The Kumho's did very well, very grippy with no real surprises. Car ran very strong, kept up relatively easy with the lead pack...including a 911 Turbo and Mach 1 Mustang running on R Compounds.
To all folks in and around the Bay Area, I would recommend going on one of these tours, I've done it about 5 times now and it's great. No cost, learn stuff, hit 1200+ turns and hang out with fellow gearheads.
It doesn't get much better than that.

Yo,
Damn guys, baggin' on the Echo!! Don't you guys know that you can't judge a book by its cover?
The whole interior was stripped, getting it down to sub-2000lbs. Throw on some Koni yellows with some coilovers, some sticky rubber...and you get a front driver that could hang with the best of 'em.
Remember, I've followed that same formula with my 1981 VW Scirocco. Light makes Right.
But yeah...it does look a little out of place.

Your FC looks SWEET and the new rims look great!
BTW, Echo is a nice car. My friend owns one and I had one for two weeks as a rental. It feels really light and handle fairly well in stock trim. It can be a monster with just little more power and suspension mods coz it's soooo damn light! I think in stock trim, they weigh about 2050 lbs?
Edit: just checked. Coupe's curb weight is 2020 lbs!!
