GTUs gets new shoes!! (New wheels!)
Yo,
Okay, I've been running the white powdercoated stock 16" Turbo/GTUs wheels forever. I liked the Blaze red with gloss white wheel look. JDM and alla that.
Well, as you know, after F & F came out...having an Import wasn't as much fun. Too much attention from Johnny Law. Throw in some white wheels on a red Import and you get, "Ooh ooh! Pull ME over!"
I've been hassled too much recently by the Five Oh, I think it's in part to the white wheels on the red car. I needed something more subtle, something darker. I really wanted to get some Black Racing Pro-N1's in black...but even after opening up a wholesale account with the distributer...I still couldn't get them.
I wanted to stick with 16's because the whole rotational inertia thing. 16's are usually lighter than 17's. I couldn't find any cool 16's to save my life. Watanabes were impossible to find.
Well, after stumbling across a interesting 17" wheel on Tirerack's website...I did some research.
http://www.rakuten.co.jp/ezbuy/487680/
Hmmm, 17 x 7 only weighs 6.3kg. That sounds light. Lemme pop it into the Metric converter.
13.88lbs!
Holy Schnikey!
Okay, I was definitely interested now. I wanted the darker anthracite wheel...and this one fit the bill. Made in Japan, from a known name, dark color, and light weight.
It's the Kosei K1-TS.
I think it looks pretty darn sweet. It has dual valve stems so if I wanted to fill my tires with dry Nitrogen...I could. Nitrogen doesn't expand and contract with heat like normal air, so your PSI doesn't change with heat. Cool, huh?
I thew some 215/45-17 Kumho MX tires on. From many different sources, I was told this was the tire to beat on the street. It's got a hideous sidewall design, but I hope it lives up to the hype.
I got my wheels from Tirerack, ask for Brian ext. 352...very cool guy.
That's it for now, I'll give you a report once I break the tires in.

dude, those are really good looking wheels. congrats, it's almost like getting a new car (as far as looks). I hope they help you avoid the evil eye of the 5-0, but honestly man, I'm not sure it was the wheels (car looks wicked)

That's just awful my friend...
Anyway, if your friend doesn't want the white S5 TII meshies, be sure to PM me about them.
Michael
10AE with white meshies? Ooo that'd be eye candy.

very very nice kevin...the only change I would have made is a slight stagger in size - it really beefs up the look of the car even in a slight stagger...I run 215/45/17 fronts and 235/45/17 rears.
even in a small pic you can tell...
and this pic I think just rocks
*did I hijack your thread? * I love your car, always have...you perform tasteful, purposeful mods with quality parts...and DAMN it's always so clean hehe congrats

found some better ones...
A little more width in back makes a small but noticeable difference in stance
another angle
Kosei's are a great value...light, affordable, attractive -

Yo,
gergrx7 - The wheels retail for about $199 each...but you know I don't pay retail. The white powdercoated wheels have two people with dibbs on them...but I feel n4ji is going to get them.
dDuB - Glad I could be of service! Heh.
Digi7ech - Don't bite my style! No one can get these wheels now! *grin* No rubbing problems as of yet, I bumped the offset from the factory +40 to +36...so they stick out another 4mm. There was plenty of room when I looked.
BDoty311 - No!! I'm just gettin' this car where I want it! PS: Yellow FC's own!
tie pilot - Yeah, my friends claim drifting in front of motorcycle cops, weaving in and out of traffic at 90+, etc. was what got me in trouble. I'm tellin' ya, it was the /rims/!! Heh.
n4ji - I've already PM'ed him, we'll see if he's a player. I think they're yours bro! Now to discuss price...*knuckle crack*
excitingleopard - Yes it is and you're freaking me out by knowing that!!
jon88se - Call an Air Marshall, my ***** been Hijacked!! *snicker* Your car looks sweet as always, I feel you about the staggered but I really wanted to be able to rotate the wheels and also I don't want to have too much tire in the back.
Tofuball, beefhole, kmags, SpeedFreak03, PHATFC3S - Thanks for the props! I appreciate 'em!
Some more technical stuff:
Kosei K1-TS (Street-oh Silver-des!)
17 x 7
+36
5 x 114.3
13.88lbs
Kumho MX
215/45-17
