GTUs Need help!

Hi , Please help me out to find out what is wrong with my car, I am new to RX7 and bought the GTUs from Blake Q a few months ago.
I went AutoX last Sunday at a regional event with my 89 GTUs. The car was hesitation or bog when I was coming out of a tight left hand cross-over(quick transition). I was hard on the gas coming out of the corner and I swear I heard a "bee" sound from the dash and the car bogged. The first time it happened I did not had my eyes on the dash and I thought it was fuel starvation problem since the GTUs was running abit below 1/4 tank gas. On my second run, it happaned again. So I went to a gas station after heat 1 and fill 15 L of gas and hope that would solved the problem. damn it , on my third run the hesitation/bog still there but I did notice the LOW OIL warning light was on while it happaned. so I checked the oil level after the run and it was good and still on the full mark.
now I am concerned I might damaged the motor. Did this happened to you before? what is the problem/and cause? Is it a FC problem?
I love this car and I know how rare it is. I don't want any bad thing happen to her. Please help me out.

thanks in advance!

It always does that in autox on my car. An oil baffel plate would fix that. As for the hesitation, what RPM are you getting it at?

Depending on your turn, and the lighness and "turnability" of your car, you should be turning at about 5000-6500 rpms so you can be right on your powerband right after the corner. If you are doing this you shouldn't be getting that stupid 3500 stumble we all talk about. However, you might want to check that your ports are opening. Now I am in that same thing as you, however, I am betting my ports open since my car explodes past 5500 rpm. Just look around and see I mean, you obviously don't need backpressure for your ports to work so look at the ports, adjust the TPS and make sure your fuel filter is good enough so you can blow through it and feel the air comming out the other side. If that doesn't work, go on to the next poste cause I am baffled.

My car still cuts out on hard lefts. Course I really haven't done anything to try and find the problem...I get no light though. It'll do it with any range of gas in the tank. Some people say to pull out the fuel pump and clean out the little metal filter that's in there, but I don't see how that would effect the car while running due to pressure in the line.

How much gas in the gastank? Keep her at least 3/4 full while auto-xing.

I have had the same problem in my 90 T2 while turning hard left, It seems to happen when accelerating and downshifting so the R's are up around 5k but it just seems to die until the car gets straight and you get back into the throttle after letting up slightly. Most of the time it is when shifting from 3rd to 2nd and just when you really get into it. I have only noticed it in the last 6 months or so and only on occasion. It happens most on a fast turn at an intersection near my house but not every time. I drive through that intersection at least twice every day and the hesitation has only happened like 5 or 6 times. I can't make it consistent enough to try to diagnose a problem. Also, I never run my T2 less than 1/4 tank. I have noticed that it happens even with a full tank. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Yo,

Congrats on getting Blake's GTUs, that was a smoking deal. I'm glad you're enjoying it and using it like it should! *grin*

About the buzzer, you'll notice that with hard transitions that it'll go off for some reason. I don't know why, but when I auto X it'll buzz at me and I'm no where near 8000rpm.

About bogging, I don't know. If you aren't in the sweetspot of the NA 13B, it's a little doggy down low. No torque, dontchaknow.

Good luck and hopefully one of our Forum Guru's have the answer.

Damn, that's the black GTUs that was for sale in Oregon, isn't it? I kept watching it on autotrader, wanting to buy it for myself but not having the money, unfortunately.

I'm quite envious of you... enjoy that great find!!

Yo,

Actually, I'm sure it was Noble White. Blake had lots of stuff just recently put on it too. My brother or buddy couldn't step up and get it. Now my bro regrets it. *grin*

Hi Ben,
We met at VCMC #2. Mine does the same thing. I always carry some extra oil and overfill by 1/4 to 1/2 quart if the course has hard left turns. Sometimes that's still not enough. It's even more of a problem at Boundary Bay because the grip is so good. As quickly as it happens I don't think it's going to hurt anything. I just worry about the big left at the end of the strip when it's there.

First, Thank you everyone replyed to my message.

I think it happened at about 4000 to 5000 rpm with a bit below 1/4 tank, I will try 1/2 tank on next event.

I guess this more of a FC problem. I will use the grease trick to check my FC's port opening, replace the fuel filter and add 1/4 L of oil to the full line in AutoX, see if that will help in minimize/solve the problem.
as for the addition of oil baffle plate, I would do it if I am allow in E-Stock SoloII. but I think it is unlikely, is there any other way to solve the problem?

thanks everyone,

Ben

My GTUs cuts out on hard LH corners, too. Doesn't matter if my tank is full or not. It really sucks, because it makes the car unsafe at the track.

Has anyone been sucessful in diagnosing the problem?

As for the oil light. what weight oil do you use. 20w 50 will slosh less than 10-30. Just an idea... I've always used 20-50, so I've nothing to compare it to.

I used Halvaline 10w30.
I think the weight of the oil does not make a difference because when 13B warned up the oil is very low in Viscosity anyway.

thanks
