Does the guy know how few were made? How is the rest of the car? I'm assuming he raced it since it has a rollbar, has it ever been wrecked?

IMHO, you can't complain too much for a $2500 car considering so few were made. If the rest of the car is in pretty fair shape for the mileage (and no wreck), offer him $2000 and go up if you have to.

I don't suppose it's in Wisconsin......is it??

Well, to have a 10th and a GTUs.... That would be sweeeet! Hella Sweeet!!

I thought of one more thing, check the year also. I don't have the numbers handy, but I recall someone else posting that there were more 90s made than 89s or something like that. Either way, I think the numbers were only a few hundred total for both years.

I'd have to do some digging, I may have the answer. I know I've seen it mentioned here though...

Tell him the junkyard will take the car for $50 if he can tow it there himself, then offer him $500.

there were 1000 '89 GTUs and no '90 officially; although exactly 100 rolled off the line.

Sounds high to me.Blue book is barely more if it was running and in perfect condition. When I got rear ended a year ago the ins. co. totalled mine because of estimated cost of repairs. All they would give me for it was $3200(or book value) or I keep the car and $2300.I choose the latter and a friend with a bodyshopgave me a good deal on fixxing it.Anyway my point is even with the rarity of the car I think $2500 is a bit too much.$1000 is probably the most I would pay 'cause you're looking at $1500 to $2500 for another motor to get it running. All this is just my opinion though.

Yeah, I've always thought the GTUs was collectible for its own sake; but its not like they demand way more money than the others. I can see a '90 in collectible condition bringing a good price, like a 10th Anniv.. Probably never will gain as much value as the 1st gens will. Mazda saturated the market with too many models of FC; kinda thinned the blood out.

Yo,

Well, I paid about 5900 for mine about 2 years ago, but it's in mint condition. About what to pay for a non-running one, $2500 seems somewhat steep. How many miles on the chassis? Condition of the seats, etc.

Not more than $1500-$2000 for a FC with a blown motor.

If it is not a AE or GTUs not more than $1200.
