1. Use the redline, it may make the grind go away.

2. Don't shift so fast. Maybe even double-clutch.

Loose shifter is your shifter bushings. Mazdatrix has a rwite-up in their FAQ section.

read the topic... It says first to second shift. He's grinding when he lets off the throttle at high rpms in first gear, puts the clutch in, shifts to second gear (grind now), and then lets out the clutch.

Strange. I get the grinding In Reverse gear when I switch It at anything either than a stand still. Also, sometimes I find It difficult to put It Into that gear. I will have to repeat sometimes and than finally It goes In.

I heard somewhere that 2nd gear grinding is quite common with 2nd gen rx-7s, something to do with the transmisson so you have to ease into it alittle more than your other gears.

Infact there was a TSB to my understainding In regards to that. I found that the notchy 2nd gear had gotten worst when It was cold outside but It wasn't until the Tranny Internals warmed up that It got a little bit better. Right now I have Redline's MT90 and don't have the notchy gear anymore Irregardless If It Is cold outside or not. Actually, It wasn't until after reading this thread, I remembered that our cars have this problem to begin with.

It's a typical "problem" due to the separation of ratios from 1st to 2nd.&nbsp Run good synthetic lube - this helps a little.&nbsp The only way to totally eliminate the crunching, just wait a split second before shifting into 2nd or don't rev that high in between shifts.
