Do what I'm doing this weekend. Port your Manifolds and do the TB Mod.

Remove PS and AC (if you have either)
Wire your 6 ports open (Search for this)
Lighten the car by removing sound insulation, carpet, spare tire, etc. (wouldn't recommend this myself)
Gut your cat (again, wouldn't recommend)

Yes, but must of them are bad and stuck shut anyway, so all they are doing is restricting. At least when they are open you get more flow.

*If your 5/6th ports WORK, then don't mess with them. Use a dab of grease to tell. Put it on the actuators, if it's smeared, they're opening.

If your ports are working, leave them alone. If they are broken, make the functional. Just DON'T wire them open. Mazda put a lot of R&D into the design, so I tend to think that they work pretty well.

my 5th and 6th port actuators are easy enough to open by hand, just by pulling on them. But i have a 90' and they work differently then yours, but im sure you can do the same thing. If you cant move them by hand, chances are they arnt working.

It is pretty tuff to pull them open by hand, but it can be done!
