Unhappy Got 2 quick questions

Hello Everyone, I have recently purchased a 1987 RX7 GXL it has a K&N intake, and a new 13b engine in it.

I have 2 questions which I need some help with, any help would greatly be appreciated:

1) The driver's side power window does not seem to work, the passenger side window works fine but the driver's side does not want to move. Could it be a fuse issue? or is it probably the switch itself or perhaps the wiring? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

2) My brake fluid is extremely low, and I know this is going to make me sound like an idiot but anyway. I read somewhere that you have to like remove all the brake fluid and then add the new stuff? And does it matter if the minimal amount of brake fluid already in there isn’t the same as the brake fluid I am adding, or will that cause problems?

Thanks so much, any help is really appreciated!

Chris

Yours sounds like a bad window motor. I believe neither window will work if its the switch(which tends to go bad pretty often) or a fuse. Also might want to check to make sure its not just stuck or off track. It doesn't make any noise or attempt to move at all?

No, there are no sounds when I hit the switch to lower or raise the driver side window. As for checking to see if it is on track? should I just mess around with it for awhile?

And I am less of an idiot regarding the brake fuid issue I was having. I will find out what kind of fluid is already in there, probably DOT-3 or DOT-4 and I will just fill er' up cause mixing the two can be very bad, or so I hear.

Thank you again for you assistance!

Its more than likely the motor. Sometimes they do stick though. So you might want to pretty lightly push down on it while you are using the switch to be sure.

As for the brake fluid, I'm not sure how you are going to find out whats in there but it needs to be filled up and bleeding it isn't a bad idea.

Alright thanks, I will try that stuff tommorrow.

Yeah I guess bleeding it would be a good idea, and just put the new stuff in there. Have you done it before? It is easy/quick, long/messy kinda job?

haha last questions!! I swear!!

Thanks man!

I've never bleed the brakes on my 7 but I have on my GFs 6. Not hard but requires 2 people so try to make the 2nd one be someone that has done it before

If you wanna get some speedbleeders you can do it yourself, but if not you will need 2 people. Its best to do a flush of the entire system since you don't know when it was last bled.

And before you go assuming it is the motor, hook a 12v power supply up to the leads into the window motor and see if it will go up, and switch them to see if it will go down.

I am all most sure the 7s take DOT 3 Brake. If you dont know the last time it was do i would Bleed and flush. Its not hard just can be a little messy.

And on the window topic
Get you self and Volt meter and test all elec before you go replacing things. I have found a lot of switchs go bad in thes cars though.

If the switch is bad though, won't neither window work?

i thought the switch could go bad depending on each window. the drivers and passenger window switches coudl fail seperately.

get a volt meter to check to see if you have power crossing the sswtich when it is closed. and check the respective fuse(s). if those are not yoru problem it is a dead or stuck motor

and as for the brakes. it is more than likely DOT 3. and bleeding it isn;t totally neccesary, but if ya have time it can;t hurt at all

Thanks,

I think I will go ahead and bleed and flush out the brake fluid. Fill it back up with DOT-3, although I thought that the DOT-4 would work just as good. Pretty much no difference between the two except boiling point I am guessing?

I will check the voltage and see if it is the motor on the drivers window.

Thanks again!! lot of help which probably saved me a lot of time and possibly some cash too!
