Good resources?

I have a book called "How to modify your Mazda RX-7" By dave emanuel with jim downing. Book was made in 1987 and I own a 1988 RX7 TII so I think it is relevant with my car. But I noticed the book spoke alot of carbs being superior to fuel injection systems. Is the book still relevant? ALso I have the Haynes repair manual which looks to be a good resource and was told it is superior to the chilton which I also have. Are these sufficeint for a complete beginner mechanic. I am trying to learn. Thanks for advice

Haynes is much better than Chilton's and is a lot of help. It is a good idea to read the appropriate section of the Factory Shop Manual (FSM) also as needRX7 said. The FSM often has more useful details and more diagrams that Haynes does not.

I've never read "How to Modify Your RX-7" and have no idea about the advice in it, but I know that book is highly collectible so you either want to hang onto it or list it on eBay. Don't just throw it out!

I have that book as well. It is dated, but then again, the engines themselves haven't changed much. Just a few tweaks here and there and carb/efi stuff. It has a lot of good information in it.

Most of it is still relevant, but keep in mind that it was written for non-turbo race cars, and not for street cars. If you are planning on building an SCCA IT or EP race car, then the book should still be pretty good as a basic primer. If you are planning on building a street car, then it will not help you much.

Yes, Chilton sucks.

What are you trying to accomplish? For example, a book on road racing will not help you with drag racing, a book on car stereos will not help you with engine tuning, a book on brakes will not help you with fabricating body panels, etc.

Newest book linked below. I haven't tried it yet, but at least it is new, and it seems to be geared toward street cars.

In reference to the post directly above and the last sentence of that post: Ok, I've inserted my name there, so where's my $500 bucks? See jpg attached of proof. Small bills will do fine. No C notes thank you.

What is your purpose? For example, street car, drag racing, road racing, drifting, stereo competition, show car, etc.

Just a street car now, but I have a vision of turning it into a track vehicle eventually. But as of now I am just doing various tune ups to see if I can work with this engine for awhile. Part of me wants to do a rebuild but I am not sure and not experienced enough as mechanic to even consider that.

Oh! I see now. Well I'll pass on that, and just go jump in the pool out back. It's 71*F and windy enough to make me COOL without the expense of sending you five big ones. I'm done here.
