Good gasket sealer?
I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good gasket sealer for the water pump. I would buy the gasket, but the rate at which mazdatrix charges for a simple gasket, i cant afford one, and ALL the parts stores around me are like.."mazda rx what"? So any help would be great guys.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have always just used silicone. I spread it on the Mazda gasket. I don't recommend not using a gasket on the water pump since the mating surface of the aluminium is often porus, while the steel surface of the pump is not.

yeah really , how much is a freakin' mazda gasket anyways? Even at 15 bucks it's still worth it heck even at 20 bucks. I tried just using rtv or something like that and I had leaks, even with both surfaces clean and letting the rtv cure before tightenging all the way down. 20 bucks to me is worth it not to have an added headache in my life.

The gaskset should have come with the waterpump. Bought my waterpump from www.atkinsrotary.com for $95 I think and used the standard "Blue Silicon" you get at autozone. Doubles as sealer or gasket maker.
Also checkout the waterpump removal/install writeup I just did:

Permatex Gasket Maker: 6BR; RTV Blue Silicone; Sensor Safe; 3 oz.

Honestly for the water pump, the colour or temperature of the silicone doesn't matter. I just generally use copper for everything since it means I only have to keep one tube on hand.
