Is this goal Realistic?

I am probably going to buy a 89 turbo rx-7 that has a good body but the drivetrain is shot. I would like to achive these goals with the car, having a $3500 budget (excluding the price of the car):

275 fly wheel hp, hopefully my 0-60 with be 5.5 secs?
fairly good reliability, the car will be driven daily

what do i need to do to accomplish this? and i have searched the forums, this question is specific to myself.

0-60 should be sub 5, IIRC our gearing is the same as FD and they do 0-60 in 4.9 with 255 BHP.

Full exhaust, SAFC+FCD or Megasquirt, Boost controller. Dont foget to add more fuel, 750cc secondarys Walbro.

hmm anythings possible huh, just you guys wait for my 300hp na on a 1000 dollar budget... haha ..How badly is the drivetrain shot. try compression testing the motor you might not need a rebuild. If you do need a rebuild and do it yourself thatll probably be anywhere from 500 to 1000 depending on whats reusable. then you still have to fix the drivetrain shouldnt be to bad. I think its definitly possible on that budget though. You should look on ebay can usually find some good deals i got a 250 pump, rails and 800cc injectors for around 300. Plus for what your looking for you could probably chip the ecu and use the new rtek2.0 thats only 400$.

o my bad on the rtek i overlooked that. 275hp you already have the motor. Are you going to rebuild it yourself? You could probably do that on stock port.

500whp has been done on stock ports. but that doesnt mean porting doesnt add HP.

true porting adds horsepower and hp capabilities but i was thinking more about cost. As he doesnt need to have them ported to achieve what he wants, well unless he does the porting himself then id say go for it.
