I kept putting it in the back of my mind that I had an internal coolant leak because I had bubbles come from the coolany resivour. IT did a little smoke but also burnt more and more oil so the oil burning covered up any sweet smell I may have made out.

After tearing down the motor after an apex seal let go (engine ran beautiful till the second it blew) I found there were a few spots where the seal looked like it corroded away or melted and let coolent by.

 

iceblue how are you 100% sure he has a bad water seal?

 

why dont you take the coolant fill cap off and start it when its cold to make SURE you have a bad water seal...

 

i agree. the bubble test is good. proved my seals ok... turned out it was just winter, lol. smoked like beast for a min after starting in cold *** weather.


edit: make SURE the coolant is topped off, or you will see nothing. Burp the system, to make damn sure its full.

 

call me a dumb newb but dosnt the cold start system on our cars spray coolent in the intake? maybe its spraying to much in?

 

If he has that system and if it works (not very likely since the coldstartsystem is kind of useless) it doesn't spray coolant, it sprays a special solution you fill up in its own canister at the passengerside of the enginebay.

 

yeah definatly do the bubble test. does your coolant level drop over time? can you smell cooland INSIDE the car? that telltale sweet smell is about the worst one out there, once your familiar with it it'll get your heart racing.lol
whats your usual operating temp? ever let it get to 3/4 or more? ever had your overflow bottle fill up all the way? how bout a boiling bubbleing noise from the rad after you turn off the car? well. i hope you have none of those.
